Now i know in most posts i sound like a paranoid piggy Mummy and ask every question going but i think my guinea's have mites, fleas of what ever they get I'm not sure. My white haired one is covered in tiny browny coloured specs, ive never noticed these before but they move! and are VERY VISABLE on her fur. any idea what this could be? could really do without a trip to the vets at this moment in time :...

i think they might be hay mites

should i get rid of the hay?

what is best to use, they are almost 12 weeks old, 1 is pregnant I'm guessing i should treat all 3 as they have been together.

What about things in the cage i.e. food treats, obviosuly ill disinfect the whole cage, igloo, bowls etc etc

I'm itching all over now ewwww

I don't lice and easy is recommended for pregnant piggies but mention it to Chrissy and she will advise she is very quick. The hay I would get rid of it and find another supplier once they have been cleaned or sooner if you can. :)

I don't think you can see mites, so it's likely to be lice, which as Louise said are really easily treatable. Chrissie at Gorgeous Guineas should be able to advise on a product you can use of hers for lice if pregnant pigs can't have it (I honestly wouldn't know on that one), Lice 'n' Easy is supposed to be fab.

A bit about Lice to help you identify on the GG website: http://www.gorgeousguineas.com/parasitic.html

Edit: I don't know how lice are caught by guineas - it may be worth asking Chrissie about this, as if it is nothing to do with hay then you may be throwing it away for nothing, however, it's definately worth checking.

the hay is from p@h should i contact them?

I would take the hay back and ask for a refund, dont buy any more from that batch! pets @ home hay has a tendancy to be mouldy too :{

As has been said, email Chrissie and she will reply promptly, no need to panic as the lice cannot be given to humans and its not doing them any harm really until you get them treated!

yep lice are quite common unfortunately, but just get hold of some of the lice and easy as advised. Don't worry you can't get lice.

Ive emailed Chrissie and p@h - who aim to be in contact within 48 hours many thanks for your replies
