I would take it to the vets rather than try to treat with calpol, he needs proffessional help. Healing vibes to panda xx

Panda has not seen a vet, I run a guinea pig shelter and have no even close to exotics vets anywhere near me, my closest is 4 hours away, I have a great relationship with my vet but i have actually taught her about guinea pigs so unfortunantly she couldnt tell me more than what i know.
Panda has sadly come down with a URI and it has hit him hard, i normally have metacam on hand but had run out.

So far he has had Calpol,Baytril,I have injected fluids and i tried charcoal just in case but i cannot get him to swallow it sadly.

At the moment i have him on a heat pack in a dark/quiet place, i think i have done all i can for now sadly

Fingers firmly crossed for Panda!

If it is URI (respiratory infection), have you tried a diuretic like frusemide to clear any water in the lungs? I have also been given bisolvon powder (pinch) to help dissolving any mucus.

A new antibiotic that has been tried by a guinea pig vet here is zithromax (azithromycin), 0.1ml per 100g of body weight once a day. It is especially effective with bad URIs and abscesses/internal infections.

thanks Audrey, thankfully the rest of the herd are well at the moment, have had a few losses of my own piggies and a few adoptable piggies and ratties too so its been rather rough the last few months, i hope all is okay with yours x

Thankyou Wiebke, I'm not aware of most of those meds as they either come under different names here or we dont have them, i can ask my vet though as she did study in the UK for a short time

Yes, my 2 boys are just fine, they are real chunksters now! And 'Baby' Oliver has just turned 2...

Panda was a beautiful boy. I always admired how close he, his brother and their uncle were.
