Hello, our pig is going to the vets in the morning to be neutered and I urgently need some advice re bedding/ fleece. The vet says that taking all the shavings out and just using puppy pads will be fine while he's healing, but do I need fleece to go over the top and if so where will I get it at very short notice?

Thanks!

Hi and welcome!

Puppy pads are fine on their own post-op, as long as you change then daily, especially in the spleeping area and toiletting corners.
The scars should be rather small and start knitting within 2 days and be fully healed within 10-14 days. I would recommend to stay away from shavings for a week.

If you really want fleece, look for cheap 100% acrylyic or polyester bed spreads or baby blankets. You need to wash them at least a couple of times with softener-free washing powder/soap because it is the softener that seals the surface; this to avoid your boy sitting in his own pee puddles.

Here is our step-by-step neutering op and post-op care advice:

Thanks for the advice 🙂🙂

Hope all goes well at vets tomorrow, sending lots of healing vibes, please let us know how they get on

Hope all goes well for tomorrow, vet bed is lovely for piggies to lie on and keeps them very dry down below x P&H sell it

If you need some cheap fleece you can get it in B and M. Just put some puppy pads/towels underneath and they work really well! Hope this helps.
