Urgh Yet Another Sick Piggie!

I would be very surprised if the Zithromax doesn't sort him out. I am so glad your vet was willing to speak with Simon and Kim Maddock. I've used Zithromax quite a few times with various piggies and it's a fantastic antibiotic. If he doesn't get better with the Zithromax, then I am wondering if it could be an allergy rather than an infection. I know quite a large number of piggies have been suffering from URI type symptoms due to the high levels of pollen around at the moment. Just a thought!

I think I was maybe just panicking and he was having a bad day as he's sounding a lot better at the moment. I know it's going to be a long journey to get him better as it's a severe case of pneumonia. The x-rays of his lungs are quite shocking. He'd already had a fortnight course of Septrin and seemed to be doing fine after he'd stopped it but then last Sunday it flared up again. We're going for a three week course of the Zithromax and then we'll see where we are.

It's definitely an infection (got the x-rays to prove it!) and not an allergy. They are kept inside and when there is a high level of pollen around, the windows don't get opened as I suffer from hayfever. Fortunately for us, the house doesn't get all that warm as it's quite open plan.

Yeah, as I said, my vet is really good and always willing to talk to other vets, either to get advice or to give it. He said Kim was absolutely lovely and a huge help and said that herself and Simon would be more than willing to help further if necessary. So it's great to know that if my vet is stumped for ideas, he's got an extra resource in them both.

Oh!..it's not good he has had a relapse...but it's VERY good he is now in zithromax......

Figners and paws are all crossed here......

If t's pneumonia..try furosemide diuretic alongside a pretty feisty antibiotic treatment: (septrin, xithromax or oxytet) Works wonders!

Thanks. The Zithromax seemed to be doing the job. I think Patch is just having a bad day today though.

I've been giving the Furosemide as and when required and it definitely helps. As soon as I heard his wheezing and hooting today I gave him some and I'll give him some for the next few days.

I just hate seeing him so ill, it breaks my heart.

Both Kim and Simon are lovely and so helpful too. I am glad you are going for a three week course. That should really do the trick. A number of years ago I had a piggie with pneumonia and it took a very long time for her to get back to normal, but she was only treated with Baytril. I've got everything crossed that the Zithromax will get him fighting fit really soon.

Yeah we're all lucky to have such a valuable resource in them.

Three week course of the Zithromax seems like the best bet, possibly longer depending on how he's doing.

Thanks for the best wishes.
