Hi everyone!

After a visit to the vets for a suspected URI, (audible breathing, bit of lethargy) we have been advised to treat our pig with f10 antiseptic via nebuliser as well as metacam twice a day. The vet said she could hear her breathing being quite stuffy, but thinks it is definitely in her upper respiratory system and was hesitant to offer antibiotics as she was just on a short course of antibiotics just a few weeks ago - and again, she thinks it's just upper at the moment.

Some questions!

1. The vet said that we could nebuliser her as much as every other hour - is this right? It seems quite excessive? We've been doing 3/4 times a day so far since Monday.
2. If anyone has any experience with URI's, has anyone had any successes in treating them fully? I've just had a piggy who we had to PTS last month due to suspected pneumonia - she hid it very well and was unresponsive to Baytril 😞

She has a follow up appointment on Wednesday - but does anybody know when I should be seeing an improvement in her symptoms? Just want to be sure i'm doing the best for her! We need to get her some neighbours, so I hope we can get her back to health ASAP!

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Hey. I’m sorry you’re going through this. It’s awful not knowing what’s going on. 😔

My boy Leroy had a suspected URI a while ago and he was prescribed antibiotics twice a day for 7 days. He fully recovered. Still breathes fast but he has ever since I’ve had him. He seemed to improve within 24 hours.

I’d say to just keep an eye on her and if any signs of deterioration then to go to an emergency vet. As it’s been a few days I would consider contacting your vets again and letting them know to see what they advise.

Is she still eating and drinking?
