Fiver was showing a crusty and gunky eye, so since we were taking our bunny Oreo to the vet, we called to ask if they could possibly squeeze him in as well. Glad we did. He apparently has an upper respiratory infection and the eye is part of the infection, so he is on a course of baytril for 10 days, ointment for his eyes, which were to gently clean with a warm wet wash cloth, and bene-bac, which is a probiotic for his stomach. She said to ensure that he is eating, drinking, and acting normal, that if he isn't let them know immediately, so going to clean the cage tonight so I can keep an eye on him.

Anything else i should worry about? I know that they had said to take Clover out of his cage but she is SO scared still and upset if we go near her, were going to keep a close eye on her as well. I just don't want to stress her out anymore than I have to.

Oh dear that’s sad to hear but we’ll done for taking Fiver - it does sound as if your Vet has covered everything. I’m sure more experienced owners can help you but I think you are right to keep stress to a minimum . Good luck

Thank Roselina...he would greatly stress him to not have his little buddy with him, she follows him around and runs to him now if we go near the cage.

Oh yes I get that. And you want to keep things as ‘normal’ as possible for him. Hopefully with everything you are doing he will soon recover. Keep him eating and drinking and I would weigh him every day (at the same time) as that will help you to see he’s recovering - obviously if he’s losing weight that’s potentially very serious.( You must then contact your Vet) Look after yourself and your little family .... it’s always a worrying time when one of them is poorly ! Sending you all some healing wishes 🥰
And remember we are all here to support you in anyway we can ! Most of us are in the UK so there maybe a delay 😊

I wouldn’t separate him from his cage mate. If the vet’s thinking is she could catch it then she’s already been exposed anyway. Baytril can be hard on some piggies stomachs. Weigh him daily at the same time. Also remember to give the benebac either one hour before or two hours after the antibiotic. Hope he starts improving soon.

Our vet said to give it 12hrs after the antibiotic, that you give it too soon they will cancel each other out. He took the baytril like a champ tonight, I gave him half, he is getting 0.5cc, then the other half. Waited a half hour or so, then his plate of veggies. He wolfed his veggies down and right now, he and Clover are eating hay and talking to one another.

Thank you for the support. We just came back from the funeral of a beloved friend last night and found my buddy sick...I have to admit, I am finding it hard to keep a stiff upper lip.

Ah that’s very good news about Fiver Cowslip ! I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your dear friend. Sometimes life seems very harsh. It’s ok to feel sad and to struggle but you have three little animals Oreo Fiver & Clover who love you and will help thru the grieving time and keep you grounded.Take care and we are always here ..... let us know how your day goes ☺️
