Hi everyone. I've not posted on here for a while now.
Basically, i'm worried my guinea pig has a uri. The other day I picked him up and gave him a cuddle and put him to my ear and I heard a popping noise when he was breathing which i'm sure was coming form his nose, also his eyes look like they are sinking or receding a bit in the corners.

I know i should take him to the vets asap, but due to family members being ill and having to look after them and also money issues- (i'm starting a new job soon so need to save the money for travel as it's expensive) I'm unable to at this
present time.

I do have some septrin left over from when his brother was ill a few months back. Do you think it will be ok to give him this? Would it harm him if I am jumping to conclusions, or will he be ok? And what dosage do you think will be ok he's 2.5lbs and it's the banana Spetrin we've got?

What also worries me is that if I leave it any longer, I'll be working so wont have the time to look after him 24/7 like i did with his brother if he is sick.

I do intend on phoning the vets tomorrow morning for advice as well.
Thanks :)

p.s. I have no idea why the text is in different sizes. Soz

Please call the vets, explain that you have the Septrin and ask if you should use it. If it is a URI it needs to be dealt with quickly. Ideally he should see the vet as they will also need to check for fluid on his chest and give a diuretic if so. He may also need Bisolvon if he has any mucous. Explain your situation to them, they may let you pay in instalments.

Also ask the vet about the dose.

Hi thanks for the reply. I've just phoned the vets and they advised me to monitor him for now and to contact them for any changes. She said the popping noise (which was my main concern) could be a bit of hay up his nose. That's eased my mind a bit now, as I heard him do it 2 days ago and haven't heard anything from his nose since, and as for his eyes, (this might sound strange) I think I've just not been looking at them close enough for the last week when I've been talking to him or cuddling him, if that's even possible. I pick him up stare him in the face, talk to him like a baby before kissing him on the nose, and in this ritual I forgot to notice he's always had a little droopy bit in the corner of his eye!

His weight and food intake is fine he's just being a bit fussy with his salad, but he still eats it.
Thanks for your help. Again! :luv:
