ILOVEMYPIGGIES!

Hey guys..ive been on guinea pig forums before but thats only usually when i need help so i guess thats why am here again today..

My piggies ill thats clear but what is it?
Shes breathing alot quicker and i can hear a little snuffle when she breaths in and out.shes eating and doesnt have a runny nose or crusty eyes.shes been breathing quicker than normal for a couple of days now and only just made this very small noise when she breaths in and out. Ive rang the vet and thought i could go today but only emgerences :( I'm a person that worries..shes not got any worse she had it bad when i first got her you didnt have to put her to your ear to hear her "rattling" can you guys just assure me that she'll be fine and she'll make it to monday on the things ive said to you and whats the best i can do for her untill monday

ThanksX_X

I'm sorry nobody can assure you that your pig will be fine as we cannot see the piggy and we aren't vets,it would be wrong of us to do so on the off chance that something is badly wrong, all i can do is send you and your piggy the best of luck for the coming days i hope she is ok,maybe try a different vet as it sounds like your very worriedxxxxxxx

I'd take her to a vet as that's the only real way to be sure what it is as we're not there we can't accurately tell you what he problem is :( sorry xx

As the others have said, without seeing her in person (or in pig!) we can't say if it might be serious or not. Hayfever does occur in some pigs, and some pigs are sensitive to the dry air caused by central heating, but on the off- chance it might be a URI we could not safely say it is likely to be one or the other.

Since she is eating and otherwise well, I would weigh her daily and very closely monitor her activity levels and eating to make sure she really is otherwise healthy; if she stops eating, you will need to see a vet much sooner.

How long has she been making the noise?

Personally I would get her there as soon as possible as URI's can hit hard and fast. It's a toughie as it's emergency vet only and is it an emergency?

Keep a very close eye on her and get to the vets if you get the slightest inkling you should.

todays the first day shes made the noise.its quite faint too..

the vet isnt open tomorrow so now its going to have to be monday.she still runs around and stuff but its hanging on my mind now.Monday cant come quick enough :'(

Does a cold make them breathe quicker and make that noise?

They don't get colds (ie viruses), but bacterial upper respiratory infections. You could try putting a bit of olbas oil on a tissue and putting it where the pig can't get at it to see if the congestion clears.

ok i'll do that :)
as i said shes only doing that noise faintly and apart from that shes fine.

Update:
my guinea pig made it through the night fine.
shes stopped moving her head forward when breathing.it looks normal but her heart seemed to still be beating fast.i noticed she hasnt drunk hardly anything so gave her some water with a stringe and its slowed down now aswell.

Shes seemed to have got better and not worse...which is supring.least i can sleep better to night knowing shes not that bad.
Roll on tomorrow when she goes to the vet to get fully fixed but i have to go to school first..dam .

The normal heart rate is fast, it is about 200 beats per minute.
It is possible that she had dust in her nose which has now cleared.
