Goodness it’s been a hectic few days around here! First we brought our new addition Adaline home yesterday, 2 days early from a rescue! She’s great, eating and drinking (in her quarantine cage that’s in a different room). Last night I heard Nora sneeze, so I decided to check her out because I’m a paranoid piggy mom. Her weight hasn’t dropped from the last time, they are both eating and drinking normally for now but listening to her lungs I can definitely hear what sounds like a URI. I can also hear it in Sylvia too. It was past vet hours here so I call the vet we see first thing this morning. Unfortunately our vet is out on vacation :( so they can’t see them until next Thursday! Obviously I’m not waiting that long. So they recommend I call another exotic vet that’s 30 min away. I do and schedule an appointment for first thing tomorrow. I’m a bit nervous seeing a new vet. They have pretty decent reviews, a few less than stellar from 3ish years ago. I guess I’m just asking for positive thoughts and encouragement for my girls. Also that the new vet does well.

Forearmed is forewarned. Expect antibiotics, but remember to check they are safe for piggies.... Guinea Lynx :: Antibiotics You'll normally get Baytril which is often very effective for URI. Good news they are eating and drinking, make sure vet listens to their breathing. Let us know how it goes and sending lots of healing vibes x

Thank you so much! I fully expect antibiotics and have dealt with them before, so I at least have a small leg up. Hopefully Nora and Sylvia take to them alright. I’ll be sure to update tomorrow morning.

Mild URI, armed with Baytril and lots of snuggles! Thank you for your well wishes, we appreciate it. Definitely not a fan of this vet very much but they did alright!

Glad it went well and you got what you needed for your piggies.
Sending healing vibes for everyone.

Thank you! We can’t wait to be feeling better so I can get pictures uploaded of all my girls :)

Something I was wondering if anyone could answer is we have a chinchilla as well. Can the Guinea Pigs URI be spread to her? We’ve been washing our hands and taking the normal precautions before dealing with either of them!
