My littlest piggy panda has been snuffly this week but has kept up her ENORMOUS appetite. This morning I noticed she was really wheezy when wheeking and her cage pal Juju was making some clicky noises when breathing.
We're going to try and get a vet appointment for this morning but I was just wondering what I should do with my other girls. The poorly ones are on the top level with my other herd on the lower. I've never had to deal with a URI before so I'm not sure if I should be separating anyone or just monitoring them closely.


Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Good luck at the vets, please let us know how you get on.

Are your new pigs in the same area as your poorly ones? Did the symptoms start before or after they arrived?

I have a mini heard on 4, and earlier on in the year my youngest had a URI and she was put on AB's and the vet gave us enough for all 4 and asked us to give the other 3 a short course of AB's just as a precaution, luckily everything cleared up very quickly and nothing was passed on, but its always best to be safe.

Best of luck at the vets. URI is not uncommon in new piggies that have had their lives upturned and that have a lowered immune system because of that. Are your piggies outdoors piggies?
 
We're back.
We do indeed have URI's over here. Luckily it is still early and hasn't gone onto their chests yet. They are on Baytril and the vet gave us enough for their cagemate to be on the safe side. They were absolutely brilliant and the vet was very knowledgeable about piggies which was a great relief. (For anyone interested it is Mount Vets Small Animal hospital in Wiveliscombe) Panda, who I was most worried about isn't as bad as Jubei who I only took to be on the safe side after I heard her making light clicky noises over her greens this morning. (Thank goodness I did!) Panda was quite terrified of the vet and bit Simon (He's really not having a good week!)

My piggies are kept indoors in my living room.

I adopted these girls from a lady that just had another baby (err, a human one to clarify!) and while they are still quite new to me they aren't the ones from the courier fiasco. My poor piggies aren't having a great time lately and neither is Simon ¬____¬

At least we caught it early. I just need to watch everyone else like a hawk.
 
You have caught it early and in my experience the AB's soon kick it into touch! The important thing is, to carry on and give the full course of AB's even if all seems well again in a couple of days. xx
