Poor lily is suspected of having uri- Ellie at Alfreton vets has prescribed her 0.4ml metacam twice daily, and 0.8ml once daily of baytril (25mg/ml) suggesting mixing baytril with 1ml of water.

I was wondering whether it is ok to give the baytril in one go as Ellie suggested on the instructions, or whether split into two 0.4ml is better. Also, how long should I wait between the baytril, metacam and probiotic?

(Lily is also on half a capsule of cystophan with water every other day for her cysts)

Thank you!

We normally give pro biotic an hour after the AB.

Mixing the baytril with water would make it harder to get in in my opinion, very big dose of baytril there

I’m not sure about splitting the dose, but for a small piggy that does seem a big does in one go. When mine have had oral ABs it’s always been a smaller dose twice daily unless we are given marbocyl tablets to crush and administer in one go.

Personally I don’t mix baytril with anything - vile as it is It’s usually easier to give it in smaller dose than a large one. Even mixed-with water or juice it’s still vile.

I give probiotics an hour or 2after the ABs.

Hope she soon picks up for you.

Perhaps I won't mix it with anything! We rang the vets to get back to us to clarify the dose- better to be safe than sorry
