I kind of know the answers to my own questions but though I would ask on here as you guys are so experienced and any input would be great.
Harold has had some noisy breathing kind of like hooting but not on every breath he was making hooting noises on and off yesterday. He has made this noise a couple of time before and stopped straightaway and never did it again until now. So he was making the noise yesterday morning before I went to work and I told him if he keeps it up he's going to the vet! I got back from work and he stopped but was not his Skippy self. 8pm and he starts the noise again! But he had picked up and was popcoring all over the place but it was too late I have booked him in to see the vet!
He has not made any unusual noises today but I still want to take him to the vet for a check up. Would you guys still take him? Also if they can't hear anything is it wise to take antibiotics as a precaution as I don't want him exposed to medicine if he doesn't need it incase of tummy upsets and superbugs in the future? Can piggies get sick like us and get better with no intervention? Don't worry the vet will also be bombarded with these questions too but I like to go with ammo from you guys :box:
 
I would take him for peace of mind. That's just me. They can go down hill quickly. I have never had issues with bactrim. Never had to try baytril yet. I have heard it can be rough. Probiotics may help with antibiotics. Hopefully you can find out what is causing the hooting.
 
I have an update on Harold, he went to the vets a couple of weeks ago and they did a full check up and could not find anything wrong. I described the symptoms and she said it sounded like kennal cough that dogs get! But she could not hear anything in his chest. He did get some mite drops as he is very itchy and has some dandruff (Bruno also got some) she said she will put a note on for antibiotics so if he does need them I don't need to take him back.
His cough has picked up and he is doing it more prolonged now so he is on 0.3mls of baytril X2 a day for a week. It's his first meds he's ever taken and he was horrified with me and would not take apple from me and it's his favourite.
She said mix the baytril in water when giving it to help the taste. I didn't as it's less to get in him, does anyone else do this?
 
Mising with anything makes more liquid to get in and wont alter its vile taste.

We use a two person technique for baytril I hold pigs on table while Mrs SB syringes that way piggy can't run off or fight too much. Give sprig of parsley after as that will help the ordeal in the furry little mind.....

I was on my own this morning so I did the burrito role in a towl. I had melon on stand by and he wouldn't take it from me. Hes keeping his distance from me now, I hate being the bad guy

He’ll forgive you in time. You have to give tough love when it comes to medicating piggies.
