I took one of my little girls to the vets yesterday morning and she has been diagnosed with a URI. Thankfully the vet listen to her chest and it hasnt got to her lungs. She just has very crackily breathing through her nose.

We have been given baytrill (twice a day) and metacam (once a day). How long before we should start to notice any change or give in her breathing?
She hates being syringe fed, so i did put her baytrill (a little at a time) onto a piece of lettuce which i held and she ate to see if she would take it that way. Which she did, is that okay? With syringe feeding she just spits some if it out.

Syringe feeding i have been through everything from pig burrito to trickery.
She is still eating, bouncing around the pen, pooping and peeing everywhere like normal.

Also the other three girls are fine. Only thing i can think which may or may not have irritated her nose is we have ordered a different hay but the vet said that wouldn'thave affected her.

Just a very worried pigmum as i dont want it to spread or get worse.

It is likeLy more reliable to syringe the meds into them rather than putting it on food but It takes practise though! It’s important she gets it though so keep trying. You’d need to be very certain that the meds aren’t running off the lettuce, and then you’ve got the risk that if she doesn’t want to eat it’s then you’ve still got to syringe it to her.

It will take several before the antibiotics start working

Hay irritating the nose won’t cause a respiratory infection.

It’s natural to worry but you’ve got her treatment now so just keep an eye on her and she will start to feel better soon.
