We adopted Guinea pig 8/5.
Was fine ..a few days ago started sneezing..and runny nose .. vet put him on tetracycline and I moved his cage to another room. He seems stressed as hes away from the others. They are all in separate cages but can see and hear each other.. they also get time out in their play pens. My question should I put his cage back and cover the end so he cant sneeze on his sister ...thank you

There is little benefit in separating piggies when they show symptoms as the other piggies in the room have likely already been exposed. They need to be able to have interaction with each other

I wondered that ... one is on tetracycline..since friday and isnt showing symptoms any more.. I'm going to wait one more week then introduce my males.. to play.. they can see and hear each other.. just wonder if they'd like to be housed together..

The one that is on meds ..wont eat his peppers ..wont eat vitamin c cookies..ordered childs world liquid vitamin c..hes 3 months

Was this piggy eating properly before becoming ill? Is he eating hay? Not eating veg is not entirely relevant while they are ill as it makes up such a tiny proportion of their diet but not eating hay is a problem. If this poorly piggy isn’t eating hay and is losing weight then you must step in and syringe feed to keep the gut functioning properly. Some meds can upset their digestive systems so you need to step in.

If you are going to bond then, then it needs to be done properly - they don’t do playdates so you will need to set up a neutral bonding pen and see the process through to conclusion. If the introduction is successful then they must remain together permanently from then on and move into the cage together (the cage for two boars needing to be 10cm x 60cm). you can’t separate them after successful introduction and then do it again on multiple times as that is stressful for them - boars either need to be permanently together or permanently apart in the case of a failed bonding)

If he is eating a reduced amount of hay then he potentially needs to be having top ups by syringe feed. You will need to weigh him daily to ensure he is maintaining his weight - he is isn’t maintaining weight then he isn’t eating enough

You can use mushed up pellets if you don’t have critical care.

Guinea pigs should be weighed each week as part of lifelong care but when they are ill, they need to be weighed at the same time every day so you can ensure they are eating enough/being syringe fed enough

Thank you..I have only been an gpig mom for a year and love them.. I didnt put the boys together as I was afraid of fighting. They are rescues.. I'm going to read more about bonding etc as well

They will only fight if they are incompatible in character. You need to set aside a day to do a bonding as it needs a neutral pen, many hours in the pen and then a full cage clean before putting them in it together If they are compatible. The only way to know though is to try!
Do read all the bonding guides in the behaviour section so you know what are doing and what behaviours you are looking for
