Urine like milk?

Sorry - more advice needed! :red

I noticed today when my girls were running loose on the patio that one of them had passed urine that looked just like milk. I read somewhere that this means they're getting too much calcium.

They are fed Burgess Supa Guinea Excel, they have dust free meadow hay each day (a large mound), along with 2 fresh leaves of greens, a couple of fresh brocolli florets and 4 or 5 grapes. They also have access to grass weather permitting.

What should I cut back on? They are 7 months and 4 months so I know that Vit C is extra important at that young age - don't want to cut back too much!

Thanks x

I think that this is normal as it is just piggy passing access calcium. One of my girls has whitish urine at the minute too and I have been told not to worry. If I were you though, I would give them a more varied diet of fruit and veg so that they are not eating the same foods. Be careful not to feed too many grapes as these can lead to mouth ulcers due to the acidity xx

Thanks! Could you give me some idea of other fruit/veg they might like? I've tried cucumber, red pepper, carrots, cauliflower, courgette but they don't like them mallethead

Have a look at the food section; if you are worried about the calcium, you may like to work you way through the phosphor:calcium thread at the top.

If I were you, I would broaden your range of fresh food, but be careful of introducing only one new veg/fruit at once for a few days. Leave it in the cage for a day or two, even if they don't eat it at first, and try again a few weeks later. They should have about 50g or a cupful per day per piggie.

Mine enjoy cabbage, but it has to be shredded like coleslaw rolleyes they also like broccoli and green beans, also apple. But I always give fruit in moderation. They also like mixed salad leaves. At the moment I have 16 piggies, I think :{ and they all like what I have said, but they pick and choose with things like peppers , corn and spinach. xx

Urine is naturally a milky, cloudy colour, nothing to worry about. Too much excess calcium, which would need correcting through the diet, is when the pee dries feeling gritty or sludgy.

Agreed that a more varied veggie diet would be beneficial. The sticky mentioned about the Ca: P ratio is here:

It also incorporates the majority of the shopping list, dividing it into how often the foods can be fed; the shopping list is another sticky in the food section.

Ultimatly, a little bit of 5 or 6 foods a day is preferable to lots of 2 or 3 foods a day. Everything in moderation. :)

My piggies are fussy eaters too but I have narrowed down what they do and don't like. Mine like mixed salad leaves, Stir fry (NOT one that contains onions), Melon, Pear, Lettuce, (cos, little gem, curly, Romaine), Yellow, green, orange and red pepper and tomato :) Other foods that they like are Kale, Parsley and cabbage but these are high in Calcium so should be fed sparingly.
