Dick'N'Dom

I had my two boars out in the run today which was partly on the patio and partly on the grass. When I went to bring them in Dom scurried under one of the hideys and when I moved it out of the way I noticed a wet patch which looked like pale green milk. I have to assume this was urine as I can't think what else it could be.Is this because he may have eaten too much grass/green veg? Have I done something wrong?

Milky urine is not unnormal, it just contains excess calcium that is excreted by the body that way, but I have never heard of green urine.

Keep an eye on the boy, but I hope that his urine will prove to be normal.

If you want to find out the colour of his urine then put them onto a white material - sheeting or towel - and let them run around on it for a while until they wee. It really works! Just don't get confused with which piggy actually went to toilet on that spot......!

Diet can cause discoloured urine. If I am correct, Dick and Dom are around twelve weeks of age. At their ages, I would be inclined to believe that their systems have not had the opportunity to adjust to green foodstuffs. However, I agree with Wiebke, that Dom requires monitoring.

Thank you all very much for your replies, has put my mind at rest a little bit but I shall keep my eye on the situation. Have just changed fleece in the cage for a white one, thank you Sarah for the suggestion. i shall check between now and bedtime and see if I can spot anything. Thanks again, don't know where else I can ask these questions except this forum.

Any more green pee this morning?

Red foodstuffs can stain the urine - beetroot, red pepper and carrot being the most common ones - so in theory a lot of green foods could do a similar thing.

Everything seems ok today. I gave them carrots, cauliflour and red peppers today instead of green veg, just in case, but haven't found anything untoward.
Thanks for the replies.
