Hi there,

I have suspicion that one of my piggies has a UTI. I have bought some urine test strips and thought it would be good to get a sample to test before going to the vets as it’s an hour away and I don’t want unnecessary stress to the piggy!

I have seen people put the piggy in an empty carrier and wait for them to wee and then collect the sample with a syringe from the carrier. Can I put anything in the carrier with her? I will feel awfully mean just having her sit in there with nothing. However I also don’t want anything to contaminate the sample.

Any extra advice on this would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance

Hi, I usually just put a chunk of cucumber in - keeps my piggie occupied and happy, plus it's watery so helps to encourage a wee! So long as the carrier is clean when she goes in, your sample should be fine. Good luck!

I usually just sit with mine on my lap with a clean pot/small bowl and she backs up and wees straight in it. Good luck, hope piggie is feeling better

I've seen a video where you put them in an empty plastic carrier but then slowly syringe feed them water until they provide the sample 💦💦
