Need some advice. Was at the vets this morning worried about my piggie making a strange noise when peeing.

I am currently sitting waiting on my piggie to pee so I can get a urine sample to be tested for a UTI. I have him in his carry box with nothing in it so when he pees I can syringe it up. But I am struggling. He is not happy about being in his box. Also when he pees no matter how quick I am he walks in it so he is getting all wet.

Any one have any better ideas?

can you take out of the box and put on something waterproof so you can still syringe it up? like a shower curtain or something?

Hope your piggy ok x

Have decided to just let him out the box and he can walk about my living room which is laminate until he pees....don't know why I never thought about this before!

This could take a while and is already very messy! Just as well the OH is at work he would not be impressed!

Best of luck!

Please be aware that not every pee will contain blood; not even every reddish pee! I played that game with Llewelyn last year. Best take several samples.

Thanks for that info. Managed to get a sample so it has now been tested and cam back fine. But will take another sample when I can and get it tested too.

He is to be on baytril and metacam for a week (has already been on it 5 days which ended a few days ago....had to swap vets but did see a slight improvement in 5 days).

Also he doesn't seem to squeek or make his moaning noise every time he pees just now and again it always seems to be when he is in his cage. But it just is not consistent.

He is still on top form and shows no other signs of ill health except this strange noise and hunching now and then either when peeing or pooping....very difficult to tell but everything looks normal.

You could but some test strips and test the urine yourself, i do that at home as i monitor Gizmo's urine. He is my pig who has had bladder problems for a while now and hes had xrays to rule out stones. I such a pain UTI's as they can be very stubborn. You could also syringe him water and then place him down on the floor, I'm sure he will wee after that, my pigs normally do!
If you do decide to get some strips be sure that the are is clean where you suck up the sample and then carefully drop a small amount of urine on each section and wait for the desired time, which will be stated on the side of the tube. But of course you should always speak to your vet too if the problem still occurs. My vet is happy for me to test at home.
Here are the ones i use.[ame]http://www.amazon.co.uk/Parameter-Urinalysis-Multisticks-Urine-Strips/dp/B0032IKZV6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=drugstore&qid=1287599836&sr=8-1-spell[/ame]
