I was just wondering of anyone could give me tips on how to get a urine sample, the vets given me a little pot and one of those pipet things to squeeze it up with and I was wondering if there was any way I could make him want to wee hah ?

the only thing I can suggest, is perhaps try giving some veggies or hay, but in a plastic container, maybe put the container on a slight incline place veggies or hay at top, feeding seems to encourage toilet functions if he goes the pee should run down to the bottom and be contained in the plastic container and you can pippet it up. if using veggies I would dry them after washing so that water dosent run of them in the container and contaminate the pee. Or if he uses a litter tray, take the litter material out let him have one wee without material and you can then collect.

You'll need:
1 x piggie
1 x sterile pot
2 x 1ml syringe
1 x large Tupperware or bowl

The way we do it is to carefully syringe piggle some water using one syringe or feed them some very very wet veg, cucumber, lettuce, soaking wet celery Leaves are good for this.
Then place your pig in bowl or large Tupperware and wait for nature to take it's course...
After piggy has had a wee, suck the wee up using the other syringe into the sterile pot. Place pot in fridge until you take it to the vets.

Hope piggie will be ok x

Any relatively confined plastic surface will do. It can take half to an hour for piggy to pee, though, even if they have been given a nice chunk of cucumber at the beginning!

I usually use an old hamster/hospital cage for that purpose.

I had to collect quite a few wee samples from Bubbles earlier this year, all I did was sit him in an old washing up bowl and feed him some melon or cucumber (in other words something juicy) and then sat and waited...took about 10-15 mins but then he would do a pee.. all you need to do then is suck it up into a syringe and if you have one put it into a sterile pot and keep in the fridge until you see the vet, if you dont have a pot you can leave the pee in the syringe and again keep that in the fridge until its vet time.

Easier than I ever thought it would be....

Thanks for the advice, i know what Marmite will be doing tonight, i have a pot and little sucky up thing and i've been told i can drop it into the vets anytime so fingers crossed he's feeling in a wee wee mood tonight !

Awwww Marmite! Food while on the toilet :))

Hope all goes well at the vets. Remember don't drink the apple juice looking thing in the fridge - you'll regret it in the morning and have to get another sample :))

How many mls of pee did you manage to collect? Just a nosey question as i'm going through the same thing with one of my pigs at the moment.
I'll be following marmites thread and wish him a good recovery x>>
