Hi all, I've had my new guinea pigs for a couple weeks now, and I noticed this red spot on my one piggies genitals. I believe it might be urine scald? I've been using these cheap pads in their cage that I've noticed become soiled very quickly, I was planning on upgrading them anyway but I wasn't sure if they might be the cause, I was also wondering what would be best to treat the little guy, thanks everyone!

Welcome to the forum

It looks a bit too isolated and too round to be urine scald to me.
It would be best to see the vet for any concerns - we are not vets so we cannot diagnose anything nor recommend any treatments.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Good luck at the vets. Hopefully it’s something easily treatable.

Hi and welcome

This looks rather like some burst as it is round? Perhaps a small cyst? However, we can only guess - and this is definitely something for a hands-on examination.

If you are worried about an infection risk until you can be seen, you can make your own disinfecting saline solution at home by boiling 250 ml or 1 pint of water, cool it and mix in 1 teaspoon of salt.

Hey everyone, thanks for all your replies! Just wanted to give a quick update: It was just a tiny scab! looks like the poor guy nicked himself somehow, it fell off while I was cleaning it. If I had to guess I just need to be more thorough going through their hay, its from my grandpa's hay field, and they burrow in it. Probably got a couple thistles mixed in  he's all good now!
