Flash is still a bit poorly with her UTI. Been bathing her the best I can but wasn’t able to do it everyday as it stresses her out so much. She has now developed sore bits and I think it is urine scalds.
What cream can I use to help her? Was using coconut oil but wasn’t helping. Thanks
Sorry for the close and graphic picture.

Hi!

Please keep your boy's preferred bedding areas changed twice daily to keep him as clean as possible.
Gently wash the affected areas with baby warm water 2-3 times daily. Then treat with a diluted antiseptic like mild saline solution, diluted hibiscrub or very diluted F10.
Apply any creams only very thinly; they tend to dry out the skin. Best ring your vet clinic and ask them for recommendations.

Thanks Wiebke. I have been changing them often as they are on fleece and changing the hay tray twice a day. I have been bathing her with a gentle aloe shampoo every 2 days. Will now change to at least everyday, if not twice a day. Will call the vets in the morning.

Flash is also actually a girl. Her bits are quite swollen though.

Sorry - she is looking very sore indeed and inflamed indeed! Has she been seen by a vet? She may need an antibiotic.

I would discuss whether using a shampoo and not just water is not good (wrong ph if it is a human shampoo), use a suitable disinfectant and discuss what kind of cream your vet would recommend. Sudocrem is very drying on the skin and not the best to use for any more than just a little one off emergency smear; in longer use it can cause additional crack in the skin - which is the last thing you want at this moment in time.

She was seen by a vet. Vet only wanted to do an X-ray for a stone and blood test for kidney failure. She eventually gave me a week course of macarboyl or however you spell it when I suggested we try it. She did improve on it but was still poorly. She is now on feliway Cystease 1 capsule per day mixed with cranberry juice and 0.3mls of calpol. Vet recommended the cystease and said I could give calpol when needed.
Looks like I could do with going to the vet again for more advice. However not sure which vet as most I have ever been too are useless. Plus if I go back to the exotics they are just going to x-ray and I can’t afford that right now. Just don’t know what to do with her.

Would Sulfatrim work for a UTI. I have a lot of that in. Vet gave me a bottle not so long since.

Please have her seen by a good vet. That amount of swelling could be the sign of pyometra (infection of the womb lining, which can be fatal if not treated in time). It is definitely past any normal urine scald!

A fluid filled and/or pyometric womb presents with very similar symptoms to a bad cystitis, as I know myself from my experience with my Cariad whose womb went horribly wrong a just few months after a bladder stone op (unrelated), but she was leaking lots of smelly fluid - only in her case, it came from the womb and not the bladder. She needed an emergency spay, which she came through well despite being only 700g and fairly frail.

Please do not treat on spec!

Could it be the fleece causing an issue? i.e. human detergents or softeners that are actually transferring to the gp's skin? I know over the years, I've run into issues with some clothes detergents where it causes irritation on my legs.

Also, I tried fleece for a couple weeks, and noticed all my sows were getting dirtier undersides to the point it was discoloring their underside fur, despite changing the fleece routinely vs. using Aspen wood chips where they are always clean. I switched back to Aspen and the discoloring stopped. My guess is the wood chip bedding actively "scrubs" their fur and wicks up moisture better than the synthetic fabric, and aids with cleaning.

IF they are laying on the fleece and peeing, and staying on the pee, their undersides/groin will stay wet until they move vs. wood chips which at least allow air pockets to be underneath + the dry wood absorbing residual. IF they have a decent amount of calcium in their urine, and that's sticking to them, that might cause an extra layer of irritation and might be the "skin peeling" you are seeing. If her urethra is inflamed, and her urine is spraying "back" towards her rear vs. straight down + calcium content + fleece sticking to the underside, it might be a vicious circle. Just guessing on my end.

Poor Flash :( Sending healing vibes, can't add to the advice already given!
