My hubby works in the fruit/veg department of morrisons, at a certain time of the day everything with a short date gets reduced down to 19p, he picks up stuff for our guineas for the next day reduced down, everything is still good for a couple of days its just a legal requirement, so ours get what he buys in the evening the following day.
Also this is aim for those with a few guineas, if you spoke to the produce manager they "might" be able to work something out that you could go in before closing things that are suitable for guineas you could buy off them because if its not sold they have to waste everything, they have to keep there waste down, so the more they can sell reduced is better for them. Just thought I'd mention as its worth asking.

I often see reduced veg salad etc reduced right down last thing at night, I was in lidl a few months back and some man was going round chucking out some of the veg and broken off leaves etc i asked if i could take them if he was just going to chuck them and he said no he couldn't let me do that!

They arent allowed to give them away which might be why he said he couldnt, but they should be able (if they can be bothered which is why my hubby said speak to the produce manager) to reduce things greatly.

Just seems rather silly they can throw them in the bin but not give them away.

That's a great tip - thank you.

Our Morrisons used to put the cauli leaves etc under the tables in bags for anyone to take (all fresh) - now they've become the veg capital of the Yorkshire supermarkets I don't see them :(

However, I will have a little word in the produce manager's ear ;)
