Hi folks, trying to decide on measures to take if we get any very hot weather. Piggies are indoors in a room which doesn't get much sun luckily but the house can get very warm when I'm at work. Have read the advice on here and found ice pods on amazon which go in freezer overnight. Has anybody used these please? Do they need covers? Are they any different to putting frozen picnic blocks under their fleece liners? Don't like the idea of mats due to chewing. Thank you

I have never used them, but scratch and Newton are often good.
I wouldn't put them in bare though, wrap them in fleece, or buy a cover if I were you :)
They may fit in my heat pad covers, but wondering if they are any different to picnic cooler blocks and whether I could just put a couple of them in a plastic bag (to avoid damp) then put them under their cage liner?

I use to put a bottle of water in the freezer over night and then put them in some fluffy socks, so it was cold but not so cold it would give them ice burn or something. They use to lay up against them when it was really really hot!

If you use the Icepods (pink) Scratch & Newton, they don't need covers. The plastic is different from that of others, and so your piggy wouldn't stick to the Icepod. Anything else you use, a man's sock will suffice. If I'm using frozen bottles, I have multiples on the go, couple in the freezer, whilst the others are in the hutch.

Thanks.. Collecting them out of my daughters bedroom waste bin as we speak!

i have a few things i use - ice pods, snugglesafe cool pad (this stays cool without needing to go in the fridge), and the boredom breaker options cooling tile :)

:D I do use the Ice pods and I wrap them in fleece or towelling. Although your piggies may not stick to the plastic, due to the shape of the pods, they may keep sliding off them! You can't be sure that your pigs will actually use them of course. Beano and Dandy just sit around theirs! The principle is the same with picnic blocks, but ice pods are flatter and a better shape for lying on. I have read that piggies chew on the Snugglesafe cool pads.

Thanks, will try both options maybe! Piggies all being eccentric and individual

Is that a Rosewood cooling tile? Is snugglesafe a gel heat pad you use?

it comes up online as just boredom breaker cooling tile. not sure if that is a rosewood brand. i got it from the hayexperts but they don't appear to sell it anymore. the snugglesafe one is an actual mat http://www.viovet.co.uk/Snugglesafe...7wK9TNxSNcQP0nyVkAsQbUFialgH7cIzoYaAoD48P8HAQ they prefer this one because it's flat i think :)

eta: i put it under a piece of fleece incase they chew it :)

Thank you, did look for Rosewood but it seems out of stock everywhere. Will try a couple of different suggestions as have three floors and 6 piggies cos no doubt they will all have different ideas of what they like (roll eyes!) thank you, will look at the other link you have me as well. Wasn't sure of our would work under the fleece.
