We have an outdoor hutch. In the bedding area I use only Hay (with some cardboard underneath for insulation and absorbency). I tried shredded paper but found that even the ‘dust extracted’ variety was really dusty and made them itch. In the main run part of the hutch though I am struggling for what to use to line the bottom. Newspaper would be ideal as it can be changed regularly and folded up. But I’m worried about the ink. I don’t want to use sawdust (again because of the dust levels) does anyone have any suggestions, or do you think newspapers would be ok as they don’t sleep in that part.

Newspaper is fine to use everywhere, but you will want to put hay on top of it for them to actually snuggle into (and of course eat) so they won’t actually have access to the newspaper itself.
Mine live in a hutch in a shed. I used to use newspaper and then put hay on top. It works well as long as the newspaper is replaced regularly. My newspaper supply then became less reliable so i switched to aubiose with a thick covering of hay on top but I am now using megazorb with a thick layer of hay on top.

I use newspaper and it’s an excellent medium for placing under hay. I am very lucky as I collect it from neighbours too

I use newspaper and hay in their (large) hay area. They are indoors so have an equally large fleece covered area.
