Hahahaha, well I'm not getting on a plane. Worth a try :))

Yeeep. USA.

BUT! there might be a light at the end of the tunnel!

My friend had a chinchilla and I'm THINKING she used coroplast lining for a cage. I might be able to get a lining for one. If nothing else, craigslist here I come! :x

Well- I have a perfect solution I plan on starting tomorrow (I gotta get some more stuff first. Getting it tonight if this works)

BUT! if a guinea pig were to nibble/chew up the corners of a plastic garbage bag would it hurt them?

See, this is my plan.

some of the cardboard downstairs is useable- but I didn't have a protective something to go over it.

So, what if I took garbage bags, put them over the cardboard and then set the cage down in, then placed the bedding over the plastic bags?

I Mean- if they eat plastic stuff like that can it hurt them?

hi ebonyraven

yes plastic can be extremely dangerous for their health and they seem to enjoy munching it. :{

I had a scare with this recently because I have a layer of plastic on the bottom of my cage, followed by a layer of cardboard, followed by many layers of newspaper followed by hay..... phew.

believe it or not one of mine actually managed to dig through all of that and munch a bit of plastic! :o

sorry I haven't read all of this thread, why do you need a protective layer over the cardboard?

xx

OH! Wow okay thank you for responding.

And they aren't litter trained- and the litter we have is actually shavings, its meant to let the widdle go down to the bottom and absorb over time, not sit on top. So, the cardboard would suck up the urine and get on the floor and fall apart . :{

i think i read that many forum members put lino down on the bottom, then maybe newspaper, shavings etc on top. You have any spare lino lying around in the basement? :))

maybe someone who actually uses this might post more info.....

xx

I Shall find out if we do- lord knows what we have down there. haha!

arent we keeping you busy this week love?

How is mummy doing?

Keeping me on my toes for sure! But I appreciate it.

She's doing fine- getting bigger :{

AND! AND! Good news-

I have a C&C cage almost done!

I read up that they like to poo and widdle in dark places where they're most frequently at. So, I took advantage of that and I got a pet taxi (or pet carrier) and put bedding in it. Their hayrack, food, and waters also going to be going in there and it's going to be dark. So, they're going to have a bed(which will also have bedding) the pet taxi and hopefully they'll widdle there. If not... If not- well we'll have to go to plan b which is ordering some coroplast (sp?) online. The C&C cage is a 2 by 3(Its all the cardboard I had, haha!)

I SHOULD HAVE (Should being the key word) everything up and running tonight with them. I'll post when I'm getting ready to put them in so anyone who wants can see excited piggy popcorns. :<>

hmmm. Pretty sure XP

I don't think our kitty would - okay he /would/ like it but in the wrong way :C

yeayyyyyy sooo much better, fantabulous!

Now you just need to put some stuff in the middle dotted about so they can play and investigate and stuff, like tunnels, toilet roll holders, cardboard boxes etc?

Yep! My family is soda addicts. We have quite a few cardboard boxes. paper towel rolls, non dyed childrens crafting tissue paper, I have some stuffed animals Imma give them to crawl around on and their bell is in there.

I also have some old pillows I'm going to take most of the stuffing out of and roll so i can make some tunnel dome beds. BUT! For now! I must sit down and take a breather xD

New cage :d

Yay! The new cage came in today and I'm happy with it. It's rather large! I have momma in it now.

Her tummy is still big, but I can't feel the babies moving as much so that must mean the poor things are crowded. Tehe.

Any day now!

I like the new cage - it came with a divider so I can do the half litter half regular cage thing. The bottom part is a tarp- not wire supported so I can't stack it- however, I think I'm going to get another at some point in time, reinforce the bottom with coroplast or something and make a ramp. Two in one :D

But thats later- for now, it's perfect for momma to have her babies in.

Nope no picture just yet- camera battery is charging from getting a couple portraits of Clover done the other day. I'll get them up asap.

helloooooo, how are you, how are the piggles? Have i missed it, has she had her babies?

Hello! I'm doing well and so is mama and the rest of the piggies. She hasn't had her babies yet- :c Makes me sad. I'm anxious!

A teacher contacted me on facebook and asked if she could have one of the new babies for her library :D. She is so nice and watches after the young kids whenever they hold the other animals (Another guinea pig, a couple of rabbits and a hedge hog) so I'm looking forward to adopting one out to someone who will love them.

We went shopping yesterday- got a 'guinea pig salad' if you will. They went nuts.
