We went to the vets today and he has put both my guinea pigs on medicine for a UTI.

I'm having trouble giving them the medicine by syringe. Does anyone have any tips on this?

And does anyone know anything about UTI as the vet didnt really tell me much. Thanks

Hi
Our pigs both have UTI's at moment and are on Baytril. One is on 0.2ml twice a day and the other because of her low weight is visiting the vets to have injection of baytril once a day.

Baytril can affect their eating so keep a close eye and weigh everyday to make sure they are not going off their food.

Laura has produced a great thread on syringe feeding tips and this helped us a lot last week when doing it for the first time, it can be found at http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=36533

If you pm Laura she may be able to send you a great factsheet on syringe feeding she produced. Hope this helps, good luck.

I find a really good towel hold helps, and I would use probiotics too, to help with their appetites/tummies. x

Thanks i have read lauras thread and will use the towel tomorrow. I'm also going to be getting them some probiotics aswell tomorrow as i just read some scary threads about baytril. I have noticed they are drinking alot more than normal aswell. Is this good or bad? Thanks
