UTI, on antibiotics for 4 days - suddenly worse

Hi,

I haven’t been on here for an age! I’d love to say everything has been hunky dory, but in reality I think I’ve just gone with my gut instinct and gone to the vets a thousand times since I’ve last been on

Current issue is that Inkling (our foster guinea pig!) has a UTI. I took a sample in to the vets on Thurs, they confirmed there was blood in his urine, prescribed Sulfatrim and asked for me to bring him back in in 2 weeks time. (He has been sometimes squeaking when urinating which is why I took him in)

He was doing ok, but today he’s back to squeaking when he wees, and painfully produced a wee that very obviously had blood in earlier this evening.

I have to say, he has had a lot of grass today and I did see that that can be an issue...but he also had a lot of grass a couple of days ago and that didn’t affect him.

Do I get back in touch with the vet? Or leave the antibiotics to work a little longer? I just don’t understand why it appears it has gotten worse. But if he’s already on antibiotics would they do anything else for him?...my gut feeling is telling me nothing

Please get back in touch with your vet as quickly as possible whenever your piggy is taking a sudden downturn during treatment. It usually takes 1-2 days for the antibiotic to build up.

Please ask for your guinea pig to be x-rayed for a bladder stone, especially if it has moved into the urethra.
