Hi,

I haven’t been on here for an age! I’d love to say everything has been hunky dory, but in reality I think I’ve just gone with my gut instinct and gone to the vets a thousand times since I’ve last been on 🙈

Current issue is that Inkling (our foster guinea pig!) has a UTI. I took a sample in to the vets on Thurs, they confirmed there was blood in his urine, prescribed Sulfatrim and asked for me to bring him back in in 2 weeks time. (He has been sometimes squeaking when urinating which is why I took him in)

He was doing ok, but today he’s back to squeaking when he wees, and painfully produced a wee that very obviously had blood in earlier this evening.

I have to say, he has had a lot of grass today and I did see that that can be an issue...but he also had a lot of grass a couple of days ago and that didn’t affect him.

Do I get back in touch with the vet? Or leave the antibiotics to work a little longer? I just don’t understand why it appears it has gotten worse. But if he’s already on antibiotics would they do anything else for him?...my gut feeling is telling me nothing :(

Please get back in touch with your vet as quickly as possible whenever your piggy is taking a sudden downturn during treatment. It usually takes 1-2 days for the antibiotic to build up.

Please ask for your guinea pig to be x-rayed for a bladder stone, especially if it has moved into the urethra.

Will phone them in the morning. Thank you
