Hi,

So this is my first experience of a pig with a UTI so I was wondering if some slightly more experienced members could help!

Just got a few questions really...

The symptoms started suddenly on Monday evening, very bloody urine, pain on urination. She's been on antibiotics since Monday evening, she's been on injectable baytril until this morning, she's not on oral, so that's 4 and a half days of baytril. She's also been on injectable metacam since monday, and vetergesic in addition since tuesday. She's still got bloody urine (it's pink, not red with clots like it was to begin with), and she still seems like she's in pain with it, and is only producing small amounts.

Should I have seen more of an improvement by now? Should I be thinking about alternative antibiotics? Should I get an x-ray done to rule out stones (I'm thinking I might do this for peace of mind more than anything else!)

I have had two UTI's in my Girls, and then there's Patrick. Patrick is the only one that produces concentrated blood, Patrick stop's producing Blood after 3-4 days but normally remains on ABS for 14 days at a time.

Doesn't matter if it's Septrin or Baytril the offending squeak often stays longer.

Has her urine been tested for bacteria? Infection normally show's on a dipstick test.

I don't know if they did to be honest, they probably did. I could get a sample and pop in and dip it tomorrow to be sure. It's definitely much improved on the baytril though

I found it can take upto 5-6 days before they really do seem a little better :...
