I have a piggy called Evie who has been getting recurrent UTI's, and this morning she has started squeaking again.

I have got an appointment with the vet next week, and I will be asking for an x-ray to rule out stones and another type of antibiotic as baytril doesn't seem to clear it well enough.

I have some baytril in my guinea first aid, and wondered if I give it to her over the weekend before the appointment, what is the dose? I can't remember from last time, I seem to remember it was 0.4ml, but I can't remember if it was twice daily or just once. She is around 950g.

She's in no other discomfort, eating like a little horse and scampering around making a nuisance of herself with the other piggy. There's no blood (she hasn't ever passed any) and poops are normal, she's just uncomfortable passing them (due to the inflammation?)

Any help appreciated :)

I'd recommend you give your vet a ring to discuss the dose needed - and to get their ok to give it.

Often with a recurring problem they can do a 'consult' over the phone, have you any painrelief? If not you could ask to collect some from the vets, perhaps ask to have your appointment moved forward too.

Ditto Suzy's advice.

How many time's has she had this problem before? By re-occurring do you mean twice or is this an ongoing issue for weeks or months?

Has she been Xrayed before? As Suzy suggested is it possible to bring the vet appointment forward or maybe the vet would prescribe Septrin, if you phone and consult first with the vet.

I'll give them a ring in a minute. The only reason the appointment is late is because it is with their small animal vet who is only in twice a week, and she has seen Evie through all her problems. Hopefully one of the other vets will be able to give me some advice though.

I have metacam as well, I will ask about that too. Thanks x

She's had this three times in less than year. She was x-rayed a year ago, but I have asked to have it done again next week. I will definitely be asking about the Septrin if there are not stones or crystals to be found.

Meanwhile I'll give the vets a call and see what they say.

Have a look at the thread titled re-occurring UTI and a very stressed owner, from page 3 I have puit a lot of information about this problem. My Patrick has suffered continuously for the last 6 months.
