Hi guys 😊

So recently my pig Oddball started peeing blood, I took him to the vets and after the check up we came away with our meds and even though he hates taking them I've seen a huge improvement... But now my other pig Pongo is starting to cry slightly when he urinate, I sat this morning and waited for him to finish to check his urine and no blood but I can see calcium residue!

So my question is can I give Pongo some of Oddballs meds, and share them rather then go back to the vets to get more?

(I don't want this to come across like I'm being stingy with money or my time...)

Hi!

It sounds like your second piggy could be in the very early stages of a cystitis, too.

Both UTI and cystitis (bacterial and sterile) present very much with the same symptoms so it is generally a slow process of elimination to work out what you are dealing with if problems persist and recur (as in the case of sterile interstitial cystitis),

Guinea pigs have their scent glad very closed to their genitalia; when they scent mark their territory, it is therefore rather easy to get faecal matter or germs into their urinary tract.

Your vet won't be very happy if you have to come back to them with two piggies asking for more meds. You can ring the clinic tomorrow and ask to speak to the vet whether it is ok to treat the companion for the same symptoms or not.
