So my hoover has finally given up the ghost at the sheer amount of hay I've been asking it to pick up off the floor. No poops, but the hay that gets all over the place when you have piggies. Any recommendations or advice about a new one?

We have one similar to Henry and it works well. But I don’t use it for hay - that I just sweep up daily.

We put a wood floor down in the piggies’ room so that we only have to sweep it up rather than hoovering it up.

Most likely the filter is just blocked or the pipe deep down has blocked, I've fixed no end I got for free and sold them on

I have a handheld dyson which has been battered by daily use.... i don't use for poop - i use my fingers for that.... it does sometimes block with a clump of hay in the pipe but i clean and empty it regular.. its surprising how a piece of hay ends up in each room!

Shark seem to be the current leader with vacuum cleaners
I have heard this.... I know a few people who have them and rate them highly... I would be interested to see if the hair not getting trapped around the brush actually works tho....

Have a look at amazon reviews, and youtube reviews.

This happened to my hoover like a week ago! It does because of all the hay/wood shavings I was sweeping up daily lol. Luckily we have a spare small one which is currently doing the job well, but I have to stop and start as it gets blocked easily

I have heard this, but they’re quite expensive. I need something quite sturdy for hay and wood shavings lol
Get an older hoover that was out before they put a ban on the higher power ones, can't remember what wattage they are, but I got one for free, and it is very powerful. When brexit happens, hoovers will be able to be more powerful again.

My parents have a Henry but I don’t live there anymore :( I spend twice a day hoovering because they love to make a mess

I gave up hoovering hay and buying new hoovers. I use a rubber broom to brush up hay and hoover afterwards.

Not sure this link will work but if you type rubber broom into Amazon...

I don't know what's happened with Dyson but I strongly reccomend not buying the battery powdered recharge ones, absolutely awful.

What a fab recommendation, I have just ordered a rubber broom. Will hopefully help with our hay vs vacuum problems, thanks.

Mine was a xmas present a few years ago...ok for a light hoover as we have oak floors - apart from the bedrooms then i have to get the big dyson out

I also use one of these rubber brooms, they are brilliant. They work on carpet and tiles. I brush up all the hay and then give it a quick vacuum.

I'm not sure how well rubber brooms work on laminate flooring, where most of the hay ends up. And the problem wasnt that the hoover wasn't powerful enough to pick up the hay, it was that it got all jammed up inside and burned out the motor. I bought a perfectly functional 900W hoover, so needing more power is not the issue. Whether Brexit will achieve anything in this regard remains to be seen.
I will see if any friends have a rubber broom I could try out.

The rubber broom should work on laminate as I use mine in my tiled kitchen and our wet room.

Yes my rubber broom works on all surfaces and I was having the problem of the hoover getting jammed up with hay after a while. I hope hoovers will be more powerful after Brexit because they used to be much better.

I inherited a hoover from 2001 and it's terrible. I loved my EU approved one tbh, but I haven't found anything that can handle hay

Dustpan and brush or pick it up by hand, or better still live with it 🤣
Never found a hoover that doesn’t block sucking up hay ☹️

It’s not so much the wood shavings, it’s the long thick hay that can block it. We lost one hoover last year so now I’m stuck with this tiny hoover that I have to empty every 5 minutes :mal::no:

I think they had to become lower wattage, that's all. Lower wattage doesn't have to mean less power though. Depends what brand/type you get.

We have an old Miele and it’s superb at picking up all the hay. The only thing is, I get through a lot of bags but I order them from eBay. I do periodically empty them but it’s a mucky job. I’m seriously thinking of investing in the new Miele bagless cleaner at some point in the future.
