I think I need to take Vally to the vets! He seems to have a couple of problems that need addressing...

1. He drinks so much more than any of my other pigs. Every time I see him he seems to be drinking and although he seems ok in himself it can't be healthy for him.
2. Biting the cage bars where there is clearly no reason. He has food and hay and water and can have had lap time but he still pulls at the bars. I was thinking he might have a problem with his teeth?
3. He's a lot quieter than usual. He doesn't wheek half as much as usual despite still running around playing with Casey.

What does everyone think?

Hmm the water thing I'm not sure would be neccessarily bad but if you're concerned maybe just take him for a check. In regards to the bar biting it might just be for attention, ooor it may be because he can smell girlies. My Frazzle used to constantly bite the bars when his cage was above the girls but now he's moved across the room he only does it when he wants attention. Might just be this! The last one I'd say is the most 'concerning' as you know your pig and if he doesn't seem himself then it's usually good to get him checked out.

Although people say some pigs are just thirsty, I would say check for Diabetes first, and then the other possibility is Kidneys. A side a effect of both diseases is muscle wastage, which is caused by excessive drinking.

I can only speak from my own experience, Bette drank excessively for 4 months but was healthy in every other way, the vet said she was a thirsty pig. I later found out this wasn't true, Bette became very ill. I changed vet it was found she had Diabetes. Bette would drink a half - full 400ml bottle a day.
