I took my lethal pig, Vanilla, to the vet today because I saw that she had a flap hanging from her front left paw. There was some dirt stuck in there, so I cleaned it up but saw that the flap looked different than the rest of her paw. So, the vet cleaned her paw really well and was able to get rid of the flap, which she said appeared to be a callous. At least it wasn't hurting her any! I then spoke with the vet about other health concerns I had about Vanilla, but it seems that she is fairly healthy considering her lethal status. The vet even commented that she hadn't seen a lethal pig live as long as Vanilla has (she is almost 4 years old), so she basically gave me a verbal "high five" on that one. I had been worrying lately because Vanilla had been exhibiting some weird behaviours, like not wanting to eat her timothy hay, running in circles till she was dizzy and not wanting to run on the floor (she hides behind her cage). The vet said to keep an eye on her and she says that it appears that Vanilla is getting old. She is definitely NOT in pain. Her lungs and heart sound fine and the vet did not appreciate any cysts in the ovaries. Good news!

Evening, Glynis. Looking at the photos of the spur, I do believe that is what Vanilla had. So glad to know that it is common enough! Come to think of it, my cat had one quite a few years ago. As to the ear infection aspect, no, Vanilla does not have an ear infection. The running in circles is due to her wry neck and neurological deficits. She had been on a course of antibiotics in case it was an ear infection, but the poor love continued with this behaviour. Today's vet visit re-affirmed that it is neurological. Doesn't seem to bother her too much, though. She appears to be just as snuggly as ever.

Sorry yes of course you had said about her problems.....she's a little sweetie isn't she x)
My girl Onyx has spurs i trim them every so often for her.
