On a discussion on another forum, a couple of people have said they only give their pgigies veggies once or twice a WEEK...I give mine twice a DAY!
Arent they supposed to have it twice a day?...

Hi Debs,

I give mine 3 veggies twice a day, I stagger it as if they eat their three all at once they leave the carrot and I feel it's important for them to have carrot for the vitamin c intake. Mine have celery, carrot and cucumber, ocassionaly round lettuce and flat leaf parsley. There diet consists of 80% Timothy Hay 15% Veggies and 5% of it is dried food. They seem ok on that. I wouldn't give them just a bit here and there, I've read that hay, veggies and then just a small amount of dried food should make up their diet.

Hope that helps somewhat, I tend to let the boys tell me what they want, I'm a slave to the Caivies! :-D

They need it daily to get their Vit C intake, perhaps you could point this out?

A variety of veg/grass needs to be given at least twice a day :)

Does this mean if they're out in their run most of the day they should only have veg once?

I give mine veg twice a day too, but when they've had loads of grass in the run I usually just give them it once a day then give them a bit before I go to bed.

Hi Debs

I have only had mine since Sunday but i have been giving them twice a day plus there vit c food pellets.

I have given them carrots, celery, round lettuce, apples and cucumber.

Mine have fruit and veggies at teatime but spend the morning outside nibbling grass.

When I got my piggies from the rescue I was told just to give a small piece of carrot and a floret of broccoli once a day, that was until I joined here :)

Hi just a few questions 2 clear things up in my head about veg because i keep hearing 3 veg twice a day and I'm confused lol 98) so, does three veg mean like e.g. carrot, celery and kale in the morning then parsley, melon and tomato at night? or does it just mean give three different veg like a bit of celery in the morning then some carrot later on then some melon in the night? sorry if this sounds daft lol! mine are still only about 9weeks and dont seem 2 eat loads, if i put 3 diferent veg in at once they seem to eat their favourite and leave the rest but if i put them in separate they eat it all, any advice? Also, with things like parsley and kale, how much should i give per piggy as its a bit awkward 2 measure because its in leaves? Thanks x

No, you can still give veg twice :) If they don't want it they won't eat it :)

Too much of one type of veg/veggies with the same food values is not a good idea. Vary the veggies and there's more chance of balancing the meal. :)
