I am a bit stuck on ideas for what veggies to feed each day.

Would really appreciate others sharing their typical day (or days if you're super organised and have a weekly menu). Please can you say how many piggies it's split between too.

Thanks :)

Ours is normally

AM
Pepper
Cucumber
Celery

PM
Coriander or Lettuce or type of Cabbage
Cucumber
additional item

additional item is either carrot, green bean, baby corn etc.....

Each day I mix, carrot peelings (from my dinner time ) and either spring greens, savoy cabbage, sweetheart cabbage or mixed lettuce.
Then over the week, they get broccoli stalks after I have eaten the tops, green pepper, cucumber, coriander, celery and kale (as a treat) and cauliflower leaves once a week.

Sometimes they might get something unusual if there was something nice reduced in Tesco that night.

I give them a cup of veggies each.

Joe gets some cucumber, pepper, small amount of carrot, romaine lettuce/kale and cabbage, small pieces of each split into two snack-times  He usually has the lettuce and cucumber of a morning, pepper and cabbage of an evening and carrot if he behaves himself!

A cupful of veggies per day is a good guide. Mine get fed morning and evening , so I aim to give them 1/2 cupful per pig at each mealtime.

This thread is the guide I follow.

I give the veg listed as daily veg i.e....

1 slice of bell or sweet pepper/capsicum of any colour; 1 slice of cucumber; 1-2 chunks of celery; 1 French bean; 1 sprig of coriander/cilantro; 1 one inch strip of spring greens

. with an occasional treat ( max twice a week ) such as ...

tomatoes ( Bess like these)
babycorn
a small piece of carrot
a small piece of apple
melon skin
corn husks

.... and grass in the summer !

My piggies get very similar veggies every day because they're so fussy!

Romaine Lettuce
Cucumber or Celery
Yellow pepper
Baby tomatoes

and then once a week i swap something out for some fruit maybe some apple or grapes, or depending on what we've had for dinner they might get some carrot pieces. Other days if i've been in Tesco late at night i pick up whatever looks nice in the reduced section such as parsley etc. or if they've been very good they get some corn on the cobs!

Thanks all. Will start introducing more things.

So far I've been giving them -
1) red, yellow and green peppers. I give all three colours each day, about a quarter of each - thinking that might be too much pepper - is it?
2) celery - about quarter of the length of the average stick.
3)parsley - 3 sprigs.
4) carrots - I know this is naughty but it's what they were used to, when I got them, so I carried on but with tiny amounts (small chopped sticks, about half the size if my little finger, per pig) - will stop giving it every day as I add other things.

I'm getting confused about amounts - it says 1 cup per piggy but I've also seen it say 50-60g per piggy. For my 3 the quantity ive been giving comes to about 1.5 cups (so only half a cup each), yet it weighs circa 135g (so around 45g a piggy).

They also have a handfull of grass in the mornings.

I'm thinking I'll add in cabbage, cucumber & romaine lettuce over the next couple of weeks, as they should be easy for me to do.

Don't worry - your diet plan sounds good. The amounts can be very misleading.

My two get this between them:

Breakfast
1/2 stick celery
1/4 pepper (usually green because it's their favourite)
2 sprigs coriander
4 thin slices cucumber
Alternate 1 baby corn/broccoli floret

Dinner
30g round lettuce (or romaine if we are feeling rich)

My 2 get a fairly monotonous diet in my opinion.
One cup in the morning which is usually:
About 4 cm of cucumber chopped
About 1/8 price of red pepper or
A small stick of celery with the top
Fill up cup with either cabbage or lettuce which they love!

They get a handful of grass/ dandelion leaves. at cuddle time too

They refuse carrot courgette and butternut squash

Usually i will give them:-
1 pepper
handful of Kale
2 handful of spinach
1 inch cucumber
Carrot twice a week.

Reading this forum reading this forum i'll think i will change my feeding habits and mix it up a bit...

Mine love spinach but reading other parts in this forum its linked to kidney/bladder stones.

:agr: I used to give mine celery leaves regularly as they love them - then Max developed a bladder stone. The only veg I give regularly nowadays is the veg on the daily foods list. Anything else is given occasionally - and in moderation - as a treat

Mine get celery and or celery leaves, broccoli, tiny bit of carrot, 2 cherry tomatoes, 4 cucumber batons, maybe some yellow or green pepper and some shredded lettuce and then they get a cos lettuce leaf each as a starter. Lol
This is between two growing girls.

They might get some grass during the day too.

Just before bed they get a green bean as a treat before I turn the lights off.

Other veg I have tried with them are courgettes, sugar snap peas and I've tried a treat of Apple or banana or orange. My girls don't like the sweet stuff so that's fruit ruled out. They also aren't mad on carrot so only eat a little. I find they prefer the carrot shredded like in a salad (little fusspots)

I just wanted to say its funny that a few of you are saying about your pigs not being keen on carrot. As mine are getting a greater variety of veg, they are leaving bits of carrot till last, along side celery. It's making me wonder if having other things helps them develop a more distinguished palate. :))

:lol!: There's nothing distinguished about my guineas' eating ! OMG - when I put their veggies in, it's like one of those dreadful pie eating competitions you see on the telly :lol!:

Yes but when I first got my piggies they went mental for carrot. Now they quite literally toss it out of the way, until the end. :lol!:

Such characters :luv:

I tried grated carrot this morning. Put it on top but it was left at the bottom of the bowl :(

I did that today at floor time. Scattered carrot matchsticks around. Well the disgust I was faced with was hilarious. They stomped around til I went and got green beans for them.

Between 3 sows i feed:

Daily: escarole, cos lettuce, red and green batavia, curly leaf lettuce, pepper, cucumber, babycorn

Twice a week i add in either: baby chard, tomato (insides cleared out), green beans, coriander, brocolli/ cauliflower (one of my sows cant have either as gets gassy)

Once a fortnight on average either: spinach, kale, pak choi, carrot, cabbage, parsley, basil, apple, pear, melon

One of my sows has heart failure recently diagnosed- she gets whatever she likes 3 times a day (not to extent of diarrohea), soaked in water as she is on diuretics.

Theres so much choice, iv probably forgotten half the stuff i give. Its expensive but lovely to see them get stuck in.
