Okay so it's veggie time, my 4 girls and 3 boys' favourite time of day. They get to squeak their little hearts out and run around their cages in excitement! For me, it's rewarding to see them so happy, so I sit back and observe. My recent observation is that their hair stands on end while they're eating their veggies, had anyone else noticed this?!

I.often sit back and watch but have never noticed! Tomorrows veggie time I am going look more closely x

Bubbles: maybe it's the rush of adrenaline, or they are secret porcupines and will spike anyone who dares to go near their veg!

Amd: it's weird! Mainly the girls x

I think it may be something to do with being alert while feeding. In the wild this would have been a very dangerous time from being attacked by predators. You also find them to be vrery touchy when feeding, the slightest touch & they jump.

Yes I have noticed this too, although we have a couple of girls that are so laid back you can stroke them as they eat.
I also wondered if it was the veg being cold that makes their hair stand on end.:))

Yes, they get all puffed up when they eat :))

My Minky is the opposite, she's so timid you can't get near enough to stroke her in their run apart from when there's fresh grass on offer. Then she'd let you stroke her all day as long as the grass is still there.

That's a good point too sharon. Well it's nice to know that the hair raising isn't just subject to my pigs, they might be abnormal in many other ways but at least they have some normal traits hehe

I haven't noticed this. I must watch them & see, although Hamish is a skinny so he can't really puff up & Dougal always seems puffed up cos he's a teddy. I'll have to watch the girls. :))

Havent noticed that but my piggies always have a wash and brush up after eating. So funny to see them all sitting up washing their faces .

Esme puffs herself right out when she is eating. But she is very calm and is happy to be touched whilst eating, as is Rosie. However go near Ruby and Tia and they sprint away!

Bella does this too, but then comes and makes up with me after ;)

yes they puff all their hair out! maisie looks even more massive at veggie time! lol.

It happened when my girlys had veggies today :) :) :) :) :) really odd to see but so cute xx
The first time I noticed it some months ago I got really worried, thinking that maybe I was giving them too much veg ( asIf they could ever have too much lol) and it was causing them to bloat. It's nice to hear that it's a common factor with other pigs out there =D xx

Just watching them out on the grass now, funny thing is they aren't puffing up, you'd think they'd feel more threatened/on edge outside as opposed to in the safety of their normal habitat
