Hi, I just wanted to tell you about my two guest piggies Simon and Sana (I call her Sunny).
They belong to a friend of mine, who does the piggysitting for my gang when I'm away. Sunny will probably move in with my group some day, because my friend wants to take a break from guinea pigs. Simon is a three legged, special needs piggy. When his last partner died, I couldn't take in an extra boar, because Muffin was "boar in residence". So we made the arrangement that Sunny stays with Simon and my friend as life long partner for Simon and then moves in with my group. I can tell you that I really don't look forward to this day, because my girls can be real monsters and Odi is not the "sow whisperer" that Muffin was.
Let's just hope that Simon has a long life!
But the two of them really drive my crazy. They have a very philosophical attidude towards food. When I put veggies in their cage, they have to think quite a long time before they decide, if they want to eat. Or not...
Of course they don't know me well enough to be at ease in my presence, but they don't eat when I'm not around as well. And they do this every time, they stay with me. (It's the same at home, but then it's not my responsibility that they are well and well fed.)
And no, they are neither under weight (Sunny is quite a chubby lady) nor sick. They just have a very unsettling attitude towards food.
My own gang is completely different. At feeding time everyone wants to be first. Eating veggies is an olympic discipline for them and the best way to make them really happy ... yes, you guessed correctly ... is food. They love to receive fresh hay, veggies or a little treat. I think I could stand up in the middle of the night, hand out veggies and they would say: 'Oh, cool, a snack! Can we do this every night?'
But Simon and Sana always make me uneasy, because they have so little interest in food.
I never had piggies like that myself, but may be my piggies are always exceptionally food obsessed?
