Hey guys, can I have some advice and ideas for my piggys veg and fruit, I've had them a week now, and so far they have carrots daily, and alternate between one day grass, banana, parsnip and lettuce with it, and the next day broccoli, cauliflower and cucumber, but is this ok? what else can I give them, is it ok to have carrots daily? don't want to be feeding them wrong :(

Also , are those hay stack things that clip onto the bars worth getting?

Thank you :) x

I would not give them carrots or Romaine/Cos lettuce daily; both are very high in vitamin A which accumulates in the liver. I would also not give banana every second day.

Try peppers (very high in vitamin C - one slice per piggy per day is enough) and fresh herbs like parsley, coriander, dill or mint; they are an ideal source for trace elements. Gem lettuce, green beans (French, de-stringed broad beans), pointed/sweet cabbage, greens, very occasionally spinach, tomatoes and apples every few days. Pears, strawberries (don't forget the green bits if you eat them!), grapes are also fruit that can be fed.

Here is a list of foods they can have:

And here is something for you to play with if you want to become an expert in piggy nutrition! http://www.guinealynx.info/chart.html

thanks! thats been a big help! id just given them the stuff we usually have, haven't done a proper piggy veg shop yet, but going to the farm shop tomorrow with my new list! never even thought about mint etc! I had some peppers in the fridge so they have had some for their breakfast today and it seems to of gone down well :)

I have read somewhere that parsnips are not good for them either but my pigs love it and always have the peelings and tops when we have a roast lunch xx

yeah, another site I went on said parsnips were good for them, so its hard to know lol! il just give it in moderation in that case, better safe than sorry, we don't have it in the shopping often anyways :) x
