Hi All,

I was wondering if you could list what you give your pigs in terms of fresh veggies over a two day period. I'm not sure I'm doing it right. I offer 6 different types of veg on one day then 6 on another but it doesn't always work out as some dont like certain things! So if you can list what you give them, then I can copy that pattern (remember I'm new to GP's)

Thanks!

Louise
:)

Hi
I give my piggies the following.
Spring greens,carrot,cucumber,red pepper,broccli,tomatoe.
Next day Kale,parsley,apple,mixed salad leaves,celery.
Hope this helps :)

Hi Louise

ok over the past two days (bearing in mind last ngiht was shopping night so was running low)

Yesterday brekkie: 1 baby carrot each, 1 stick of celery for John, leaves of 1 corn on the cob , chunks of cucumber each

Yesterday Supper: mixed salad leaves (red chard, green chard and something else can't think off the top of my head sorry), a piece of brocolli each, 1 romaine lettuce leaf each.

Also had grass while out in the run

Today: brekkie: 2 chunks of cucumber each (was out for making my daughter's packed lunch anyway), a romaine lettuce leaf each, a big carrot between them.

They are out in the run just now so more grass. I also cut up a satsuma into 6 tiny pieces but they've just sniffed it and not eaten it. Just about to chuck in some parsely and corriander in to them.

Today supper: will probably be: peas in the pod, red cabbage, maybe mixed salad leaves and maybe some brocolli.

Mine tend to repeat over a few days too depends on what I have in the fridge, I don't buy a huge variety in a week because it never gets all eaten and I'm wasting money if it goes off. So between now and sunday I'll vary between: carrots, spring greens, red cabbage, brocolli, peas in the pod, salad mix, romaine lettuce, grass, parsely, corriander, cucumber, apple, celery and corn on the cob leaves.

The spring greens are nearly finished as is the celery so when we go shopping at Lidl at the weekend I'll get some more bits and pieces, hopefully carrots with leafy tops on.

Hi Becca and Flm :D

That's brilliant thanks! :) I've been doing similar but using Romaine lettuce and I'm finding I'm using it and carrots a lot for the girls as they don't like celery or cucumber! Although they are putting on weight!

Thanks a lot for your help I'll give your diets a go and see how I get on with that! :D

Take care,

Louise
:)

Hi mine had -

cucumber, corridandar, apple, broccoli ( which i have just discovered i cant spell :D)

and-

Pear, cauliflower, carrots and tops and some spring cabbage leaves..

But they also had the 2 apple n herp boxes i got from thistle cavies....the girls just enjoyed ripping the box apart, not sure how much of the contents got eaten :-\ but it was fun watching them investigate lol :smitten:

Thanks Liz! I'm going to make a diet sheet and stick to it. I'll probably have to do one for boys and one for girls as they like different things! :)

Thats what i do, i have a list in the inside of my cupboad also with danger foods just incase i am not in and i ring to ask Russ to feed them for me. ;D I think my 5 year old knows more about them than he does lol :smitten:

Yeah I've warned mine no leeks, no onion type foods, no mushrooms and no potatoes! We love shopping around for veggie bargins I go to lidl, netto and aldi and Emily who is 6 finds the bargins while Caitlin who is 2 carries them, well what she can anyway! It's good fun, I think I'm slowly going piggy crazy, but I only want what is best for them and to feed them well so they can hopefully live a long and happy life! :)

Well better run and introduce Cuzzy and Twinkle together. I hope they don't have a barny! :)

Take care,

Louise

Thanks for the list Jade :)

Not sure where I'll get Kale from not seen it about but I'm sure it will be in the bigger tesco stores!

Louise
:)

you can definately get curly kale in Asda..it's in bags beside the cabbage, spring greens stuff

Louise adsa and morrisons sell it too if you have any stores near you. Will have to expand my list of things i give them as they tend to get the same at t time extra q and melon/kale.

thanks for the list guys

whats pak choi and pointed cabbage not heard of these?

oh and is pak choi ok for them? and how often?
I've seen it in Asda too but wasn't sure if they were allowed.

Thanks guys, I have found Morrisons to have the best variety for lettuces, I'm gonna shop around in the morning. I've got a list together now! :) I think the girls would defo prefer the herbs they aren't over keen on celery, tomatoes and cucumber etc they are very fussy. :)

There are lots of types of cabbage but mine all love pointed cabbage. You can find it in any supermarket. I give pak choi occasionally as its quite expensive, oh and not too much curly kale as its high in calicum which is linked to formation of bladder stones.
I grow my own parsely, basil, mint, yarrow, marigolds, dandelions and plantain for them as treats. They absolutely love herbage and its good for them. Again, not too much parsley :)

Thanks! I've got Kale down as once/twice a week. I've just done a time table now just got to see how much it is going to cost. Don't get me wrong I feed them 6 different types of veg I just feel I can do better with the diet. We grow marigolds too, they stink! :D

I had to nip to Asda last night for bits and pieces so got some pak choi...both piggies love it! but yup expensive at £1 odd a bag.

Bob is terrible! heard me coming through the door with the carrier bag and it was almighty whee wheek wheek wheek wheek!
Good job there was actually something in the bag for him ;D

Hi how many fruits do you give with your veggies if you gave them 6 each morning and evening?

Hi Karen,

I give 6 over a day so its 3 in the morning and 3 of a night. I give fruit every third day but I do give tomatoes. My pigs aren't fruit lovers except for the skin of melon.

Louise
:)

Ooh I though it meant six in the morning and evening, was wondering why I couldnt think of enough veg etc to give them dooh 98)

Hehe I couldn't think of that many either, well I probably could be my local Tescos doesn't cater for the more exotic foods! Peter nicked a big of celery tonight and I went mad, it's not for him! :D

funnily enough, i'm going through the same thing lol! menus, we are all piggy loopy! anyway, i was thinking i could have 3 menus like week 1, week 2, and week 3 and alternate so they dont get bored. you'll think i'm crazy, but i'm noting what all the piggies eat and don't so there's always something they all like! i have a special notebook just for that LOL 98) ;D

That's a good idea! Arghh I've just worked out my weekly shopping!

I'm giving one food that they can have daily, then frequently, then once or twice a week with each meal time and it seems to be working. The girls were only on one lot of a veggies a day but giving them more variety has helped getting them onto 2 and they seem more settled. The boys will eat anything!

I gave them herbs today and the house stunk of them, I'm going to have to grow my own! :)

Louise

I give mine ::

Dry food
Fresh greens
Pepper
Grass
Dandelion leaves (once a wheek)
Carrot
And for special treat banana (there favourite)

Mine love Dandelion leaves too, does anyone know how to keep them fresh? Peter picked loads from the garden (front garden as we have next doors cat in sometimes, but she doesn't come in the front) anyway I was out at the time and he put them in a plastic bag but by the time I came home at tea time they had gone a bit dried looking and I didn't chance it!

It's raining here at the mo so I'm hoping we get loads of new ones growing, I end up going to my Nans and folks places to nick them! :)

LOL another fellow dandelion nicker ;D mine still like them dried, i tried it the other day yours might?

Ah I wasn't sure if they could have it dried, but then I give the, herbage which has dried dandy in it! ROFL I'm such a thicko at times. I think I can be too careful with them! :)

yeah, i care so much i'm overcautious! don't worry thats a good sign, much better than shoving any old thing under their nose. O0
