Ok ive stocked up on veggys ready for my three arrivals tomorow! -and - I - uh - think I may have gone a little overboard lol!
I have parsley, basil, FIVE WHOLE BUNCHES OF CORRIANDER (they would only sell them 5 for 1 pound), baby carrots, cucumber, pepper, lettuce, cabbage, bean sprouts, apples, grapes.... phew! I'm only getting three piggers! ha ha x

I recommend you eat some nice mixed salad yourself next week...

You will find out soon how much they will eat (ask Jools how much she gives per meal). Apart from that - all the best for tomorrow! It's so good that those three are staying "in reach" of us!

Personally, I prefer to buy the herbs in pots and have them on the windowsill - that way the herbs stay fresh and I can vary (even for us humans...!).

I have brought basil and parsley in pots :))

Just a quick question - and this may sound stupid but once you have picked the parsley - will it continue growing if you keep watering it? ") Or once its picked is that it?
Heard fron jools, and they will be here tomorow lunchtime - she's just bathed them :)

ooh I forgot to add cherry tomatoes to the list!

It will grow back a bit, but not too much.

In spring and summer you can actually pick out the parsley and basil and plant the single plants (there are quite a few in a pot) on into more pots and thus multiply your herbs. Make sure that you water your basil and parsley regularly - they are both heavy drinkers.

The herbs sold in supermarket pots are simply planted too closely to really thrive.

What a feast awaits your new arrivals. They are going to be spoiled rotten! Lucky piggies..

what about if I replanted the parsley in a big pot inside? Would that work? with regular watering? sorry as you can tell I'm not really that green fingered :))

Parsley will grow well on a windowsill. I grow coriander from seed, a packet is about £1.50. It positively thrives on being picked regularly, I use a lot of it in cooking, so it's a good one to grow. Does well on a sunny windowsill.

I've got a big pot of basil too too - do piggies like that? I've not tried them.

Mine LOVE fresh basil!

And yes, you can try and see if the parsley takes if you kep it on a sunny windowsill.

Get some slow release granules fertiliser to mix in with soil, so you do not have any feed splashing on the leaves. I also use water retaining crystals to cut down on the need of watering , especially as pasley and even more so, basil, are very thirsty plants.

Mine LOVE fresh basil!

Hmmm, well I just put some Basil and Coriander in their run along with the grass and they have treated both with deep suspicion! I'll persevere, it took them weeks to try sugarsnap peas!

it would be great if I could grow some but I'm not a very green fingered person and I usually forget to water things or i water too much and the end result is usually the same - death for the poor plant :))

I presume it grows back. Cherry tomatoes? Hehe!

Guinea Pigs like cherry tomatoes! See this pic as evidence! :<>

(Found it on Google, I laugh everytime!) :(|)

I keep forgetting to buy parsley and basil, I am doing a shop tonight so will add that.

Mine love strawberrys! x)

I have 4 that like cherry tomatoes and 4 that dont. ALL like the odd halved grape. Coriander is a HUGE hit in this house as it basil.

Candywishes where did you get 5 bunches for £1 of coriander? That's a bargain!

I'm giving mine basil and coriander every day now, and they've finally condescended to try it rolleyes

I think it'll be a while before I persuade them it isn't a lower form of food though!

Local market! They are always selling stuff like that real cheap - the only problem is, you can never use it all up before it goes off - they are really big bunches!

You can stick anything too much in the freezer, preferably rougly chopped, break off what you need for cooking and throw it straight into the hot pot. It goes mushy when you defrost it, so you can't give it to pigs.

i tried to do that with a pot of parsley that i brought from asda, i cut it off, bagged it, and then kept it on the windowsill on a plate, and watered it-it didnt work! but then again I'm no charlie dimmock!hehe.gemx

My piggy eats everything and anything, nothing makes him suspision, he just eats! Not tried him on Herbs yet may get some basil on the way home see what he thinks! :))
