She was fine this morning at 8am when i went down to clean and give them brekkie.
Went out at 9am to go for walk, came back at 10.15 still ok, fed them both a green bean.
Went down again at 11am to here this raspy breathing......PANIC!.......found Velvet looking not happy and breathing laboured very raspy, i had some Baytril in the fridge that was from november 2010, but it had no flavouring so it shouldn't have been 'off' i have given her 0.04ml
I'm pretty sure it's not any bean stuck in her throat......i've massaged her and had her on my shoulder.
I'm out for quite a few hours this afternoon so i'll update when i get home :...
Any suggestions on whatelse i can do till i can call vets tomoro morning?
It worries me as she's a diabetic and it's not good if they get sick :...

Keep her nice and warm, and try some vicks vapor rub on a tissue nearby (out of reach of course) to open up her airway a bit

Hope shes alright x

oh no poor velvey...!
try and keep her in a stable temp.
and the vicks thing is a good idea...
good luck bab....
fingers crossed...!
keep us updated...!
big hugs....!

Just back from being out, she wants to eat, which is good sign....still sounds really rattly tho :...
Vicks idea great thanks Bean xx>>>
thanks also Katie and Clare xx>>>xx>>>

Ohw no poor Velvet!

Is there a chance she could have inhaled her food? And a little is sat on her lung and she's trying to get rid of it?

Hope she's feeling better? xx

I wondered that........but she's since had lettuce and grass so i'd have thought that would move it?

Just put a makeup removal pad on top of their house with 2 drops of euclapytus oil (i am allergic to vicks)

oh no! hopefully just a bit of food stuck! hope she starts to feel better soon. xx>>>

How's little velvey doing today...?
Has she been vets yet...?...( sorry time difference confuses me slightly)
If so what did he say...?
Big hugs and healing wheeks from the herd....

I'm 9hrs ahead love :))

no improvement :...
BUT she still wants to eat and drink! so that's huge in my book!
I gave her another dose of baytril (my old one as mentioned in original post) tonight at 9pm.
I have heard her COUGH loudly once at 8.15pm and then again at 9.10pm tonight...... she is sounding quite rattly.....i do hope it's only a URI....... :...
will stay up beat as she's eating.....she's always been my good eater!
have already setup the carrycase for the vets......will call in morning....if she at all goes down hill i'll be travelling to the emergency vets (the only one open at all around our area......it's about 30+ mins travel time at night) i just hope if this happens they have an exotics specialist on!
gonna set my phone to get me up during the night to check her, added extra hay some little towels and left the heating vent on so it comes on at 5.30am tomoro..........

any other suggestions?

and THANKYOU TO YOU ALL XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Aw, poor Velvet - hate it when they are not well :(
You sound as though you are on the ball with everything and hope she feels much better soon :)
One of my tiny girls had a bit of a snuffle early Friday morning so was prepared for a vet visit but by lunchtime was fine but have kept a close eye on her - we've had some pretty sticky weather lately and hoped she may just be having an off day. I'm amazed how well we all know our piggies little habits and behaviour and can pick up on the slightest thing - just noticed she wasn't as enthusiastic with her veggies :...
Lots of gentle hugs to Velvet from us all here x>>

awww Glynis, hope Velvet is ok, keep a close eye on her, i know you will, sending her some vibes anyway x

Vets at 3.45pm

Velvet will be seeing Brendan at 3.45pm today, just spoke to him and told him i'd given her the old baytril and he said good that's at least a start for her.
She is still popcorning and eating bless her, but still very rattly :...
Will let you know how it all goes, it will be early UK by the time i get home (**** about 7.30am)

thanks for all the lovely messages, Velvet says WHEEEEEEEEEKY THANKS xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

Update

Well it's sort of good news...........yes Velvet has a URI :( but her temperature was fine and he listened carefully and he's happy that no fluid on lungs (i was really worried it was fluid on lungs).......but he's then said watch her like a hawk (of course i will) and went thru any other signs i should look out for.
She's on baytril 0.45 twice daily and says to do so for two weeks, i'm to update Brendan on friday with how she's going.
I'll also be giving her probiotics which she is fine with bless her :)
poor baby tho had her temperature taken :red and was not happy !
am going to have blankies for day time too over their house as the temp in there room can get down to about 15-16 during the day and sometimes a bit lower over night (at night they always have blankies over them with a gap for fresh air, gap will be smaller for awhile now) remember it's winter here!
She's also lost a little weight which i guessed when i picked her up this afternoon......will keep on that also.

Misty and Storm send wheeks and snuffles to Velvet (and Onyx too). Hope she is ok x

Update

Day 12:

She has clear breathing has done now for a couple of days but i didn't want to moz her... :))
She has continued to be an excellent patient, she calmly takes her baytril and probiotics !
On my day off and on the weekends she gets meds at 8am then probiotics at 12noon and 4pm, then meds at 8pm. She also gets extra water via the syringe too.

I'm so glad that i taught her that syringes are not scary and that nice things do come out of it at times, this has helped immensely. I even have Onyx begging for the probiotics :)) I do hope other people might try this also with their piggies.

Velvet sends wheeeeeks of thanks to everyone that's so kindly asked after her xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

I am glad to hear that Velvey is getting over it; being diabetic makes everything so much more difficult.

I hope that she'll be back to normal soon!
