So I've been very communicative with my piggies especially now that they are out of my room and in a room on their own. They get very chatty and squeak a lot when they hear me come in and no matter how I phrase it on Google it say they are in pain. Maybe I'm just saying the wrong thing? Either way. Is this good or bad? They stay quiet if I Enter and say nothing, but once they hear their names they start squeaking and making.noises like crazy! They aren't in pain are they? I'm sorry if this is a silly question. I'm just new to this. Are they just getting the idea that food time is coming? Or petting time? I visit them often just to talk to them or pet them. But they still run around if I start to touch them. They do let me get close to their face, but if I start petting them they run.

They sound like they are very happy to see you ... and food!
It is normal for them to run off if you try to touch them.

This site (although a little outdated now) has a good section on sounds. See if you can identify it on here. Guinea Pig Sounds
Personally I think it sounds like wheeking.

Yes! I had no idea about the term wheeking and @piggiesandbuns just told me to look it up and that is the exact sound They Make! Thank you so much!

They are excited to see you! Meg has such a loud wheek she sound like she is being murdered!

Mine are very talkative - usually it means "O there you are - why haven't you fed us in hours and hours and hours."
They also chatter away to each other.
Occasionally the wheek will mean they are not happy.
When I lifted Priscilla out for her grooming session yesterday she screamed the place down until I sat her on my lap and stuck a piece of cucumber under her nose.

Clover sometime wheeks very unexpectedly like a fire alarm, the first few times I was terrified she'd hurt herself but I've learnt that it means "hey hooman person I can hear you in the next room and I am too lazy to get out of bed and come to the cage bars, please post some carrots into the pigloo that is making the noise" :)

They are most likely just hoping for food and excited... especially young pigs can be very persistent at wheeking to 'remind' the humans that they are here and like treats! Leela wheeks every time she hears people in the fridge... she knows where the carrots are kept! LOL!

One of my last pigs had a habit of going demented and wheeking at the top of his little lungs every time he heard a bag rustle. I accidentally walked into a hay bag at 3am. My poor neighbours :)) be careful with the noises, if they learn to associate a specific noise with food they will never stop. Never.

Haha yes wheeking is a thing of beauty isn't it? Mine sometimes wheek at the sound of my footsteps but not other people's :)) other things that set them off include opening the fridge, opening the back door, using the chopping board and the rustle of any food packaging even if it isn't for them (no sneaky crisp snacks for me)

One of mine is very chatty to me (dexter) The other one (popcorn) will chat to dexter but not to me.
When I went to feed them tonight, Dexter was having a very noisy moment! He was stood at the pen grids, telling me off! I was 20 minutes late in giving them their tea and he was not afraid to tell me he wasn’t pleased about it!

I got hostile teeth chattering from lovely floof Jezebel tonight when dinner was late (plus a lovely floof hand lick, she loves me really)- usually she's very quiet and well behaved but she's been a bit cheeky today, think possession of the new cardboard hidey tube has boosted her confidence!

Couldnt blame her really, I went in with all the veg chopped on a plate only to discover that piggy daddy hadnt washed the piggy dishes this morning and they were still in the kitchen sink... poor starving piggies were sat gazing mournfully at a plate of red pepper and spinach for a full 10 minutes until piggy daddy got his act together!

Bad piggy daddy! Report him to the GPU (Guinea Pig Union)!

Piggy daddy was a bit distracted as he has a job interview coming up and had to shave his big fuzzy beard off... but its really no excuse for making the piggies wait 10 whole minutes for dinner with only 2 kilos of fresh hay to stop them starving to death!

Hope Piggy Daddy’s job interview goes well
Thank you! He's trying to get an evening/weekend/school holiday job as a community carer for elderly people as his current 3 days a week, 6 hours a day, term time only school job barely covers the piggy expenses (they have expensive tastes) never mind paying to run the car!
