Hi, our very much loved lollipop is extremely lethargic, barely eating and drinking. We took her the emergency vets last night who tried to rehydrate her by injecting fluids under her skin. They also gave her a pain relief injection, anti biotic and one for her stomach. I was given recovery packs to take home and also two other meds. she wont enyertsin the recovery food with forcing her to have it via a syringe, same with water. I dont know what else to do for her and my daughter is traumatised, ss she loves her so much as we all do. Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted x

@sandra74 What happens when you try to force feed her? Does she fight or is she unable to swallow it?

If you really can't feed her and the emergency vet is unable to help then the kindest thing may be to have her euthanized. They need a constant supply of food running through their systems so she's very likely to decline if she's not eating at all.

I'm sorry for the difficult situation you're in.

when I force feed her she fights me and I'm worried I'm making it worse x

@sandra74 If she is okay swallowing then you need to force her to eat.

Try giving her a really small amount, say 0.2ml each time so you don't feel like you're putting too much in.

There's a syringe feeding guide on for forum that would be worth a read. It describes the best practices for hand feeding.

Good luck!

I agree with the above, i cant add any advice. But 7 is a very good age for a guinea pig, things do start to go wrong at that age. But i hope things get better for you all

I’m very sorry to hear this, it sounds like you did your absolute best for her, I was going to say the fact she was fighting you is sometimes a good sign (rather than she can’t swallow the food) as she has energy in her. She was a very good age and you can remember her for the lovely piggy she was. Hope you and your daughter are ok ❤
