Very Poorly Piggie, Not Eating- Convenia

You both make a great team- keep fighting! The fact he can eat and js eating is a good sign. Hopefully over time things will improve. I hope your vet has some answers soon x

The vet was very positive. He says he's not too worried about his weight bobbing up and down at the moment and the fact that he is eating nuggets/hay/veggies and drinking water and pooing is really good. He's said to reduce the amount syringe fed and reduce the fibreplex and see how we get on but he thinks he might make it!

Thats fantastic news, you are doing such a great job and your both fighters, i know how hard it is when there weight goes up and down but if the vet says not to worry and he is eating hopefully it is a positive sign for him!

From his picture on page one I would say he does look like he is in some discomfort :( I would be inclined to ask your vet about maybe giving him a low dose of Metacam daily for about a week to see if his eating/weight improves. If there is some inflammation from the Convenia still present then that will cause some discomfort which in turn then would make him eat less. Metacam is a good anti-inflammatory & well tolerated as long as your current vet thinks there is no kidney damage.
With regards to making a formal complaint, I would encourage you to do so, put it in writing or get someone to do it for you & keep a copy for yourself. Not only should they be prepared to foot the bill for his treatment also at the current vets they should also be made very aware that this mistake should never happen again because someone else's piggy might not survive next time :(

Sadly Pip lost his very long battle yesterday. He never seemed to gain any weight despite having a healthy appetite and tucking into loads of different kids of food. His weight was slowly dropping and them a bought of soft poo meant he lost 50g on two consecutive days. The decision was made that he was never going to recover so he was put to sleep before he started to show signs of distress. I'll always remember his cheeky face and our special relationship which was strengthened over the last couple of months. The lovely new vets (who didn't administer the convenia and who were so supportive throughout this time) didn't charge me yesterday which was very thoughtful and I'm glad I've now found somewhere so clued up on small furries.

BIG HUGS

I am so sorry - you have worked so hard to give Pip every chance and all the love in the world.

Oh, I am really very sorry to hear this. Hugest of hugs to you. You could not have done more and have done the kindest thing for him. Sleep well little Pip xx

Offering my deepest sympathy, and sincere condolences.

However, without further investigation, one cannot ascertain the cause of your guinea pig's ill health/death - I had two boars neutered several years ago, neither of which recovered despite several months of nursing (Neither received a questionable drug/treatment etc. . .)

Hugs, I am so so sorry for you. What a desperately hard time you have had. You did everything you could and he went feeling happy and loved. Take care of yourself now. Sleep well little one xx
