I'm so sorry to be posting this news and I'm absolutely gutted. My daughters guinea pig sweep was put to sleep this evening. UnfoUnfortunately at lunch time he just went down hill he was fine before this. He was just lying on his side and seemed to be fitting. I tried to get him as ccomfortable as I could and got a vets appointment. Got him in fo 4 oclock they put him on oxygen. Vet checked him over apparently he had a massive tumour that he was born with. Nothing vet could do unfortunately. They put him to sleep. He was the most amazing tame and gorgeous piggy u could want unfortunately it looks like this may have been due to his illness I'm gutted hubby keeps shouting at me to get over it but I'm so upset rip sweep x

so sorry for your loss.... must be very hard for you.. take care x

I feel awful I knew he wasnt putting on weight like his brother but he ate so much and didnt show any indication he was poorley until literally 2 hours before I took him to the vets. I feel like the worst pet owner ever! The vet did say he was born with it but I just feel so upset and useless! I thought he was a placid and laid back piggy but looking back it was probably because he was poorly. Xx

I'm so sorry to hear this . I'm sorry your husband doesn't understand . Sending you hugs.

Vent away here honey, we completely understand, we too get emotional when we lose a beloved furry. Even when they are so young it can be hard.

Thank you I'm heartbroken i am truly gutted thank you for listening to me it helpd slightly x

What a real shock for you and how upsetting. We really do,understand on here. We all grieve our piggies as family members. So sorry for your loss.

Oh how very sad for you. Guinea Pigs are Oscar winning actors and actresses - they hide any illness for as long as they can. In the wild looking poorly would be a sign of weakness and make them more vulnerable. Hope you feel a bit stronger each day and take care of yourself x

Thank you all for your support still feeling shocked and upset today but this evening I feel a little better and am concentrating on making Jeff feel ok and happy. I came downstairs to find him squeaking for and searching for his pal he usually likes to hide in his boxes but hes spent the day out in the open just lying on his pile of hay so ive let him be and had him out for a little while just feeding him treats. He obviously has no idea hes passed but he certainly knows his cage mate is no longer here. I'm going to leave it a couple of weeks and then I'm looking to adopt a new boar as he obviously needs a companion and I feel adoption would definitely be the best option. My daughter is 8 it was her piggy she had a bit of a cry but dont think her young age has really processed the whole process of her guinea pig dying which is a blessing really as she adored sweep and he would often just cuddle up on her lap. Ive explained to her that she was a brilliant guinea pig owner she really was and made sure he had food and water daily and even wanted to spend her birthday money on buying him Christmas gifts! Her 9 year old brother has been very kind and had said that until we can find another piggy who can be jeffs forever cage mate that she can share jeff with him bless them x so thanks once again for the kind words and I will continue to post about jeff and hopefully soon about a new cage mate. Happy new year to you all and to your piggies xx
