Sodapops
Adult Guinea Pig
Hi there,
I have just re-homed a 12month old boar - he was rescued from a flat along with 10 other males guinea pigs.
After posting on this forum for the first time a few days ago (asking for some advice on my 12wk old baby boar called Homer) i was advised to get him a playmate.
The first boar we tried with my baby, ended up in a lot of teeth chattering/fur on end and neither one would back down - the second attempt saw JJ our newest addition trying to mount our baby (I'm told this is very normal) - from then on in the teeth chattering stopped and Homer sat in the corner of the run.
The advise i wanted really focuses on our newest addition to the family - JJ - he is about a year old and very very scared, so much so that he only has to see you move and he runs a mile. Obviously taking food or even letting you touch him is a big no-no.
What can i do to help him over-come his obvious fear of humans - even the smell of my finger sends him running (if you can get close enough).
Also is it normal for my youngest to back off at the smell of the elder? The eldest pig (JJ) is at the moment sitting in the log cabin and Homer is walking around the run but will back off or walk in the opposite direction the moment he takes a sniff near the log cabin?
Homer - the baby (up until about 10mins ago) just sat in one corner of the run and didn't move - no even an inch - looked like a statue.
Sorry for all the questions - just want to be sure ive done the right thing for both guinea pigs.
Thanks
