I just got a box of hay from online about a week ago, the 2nd timothy cut. It is so sharp and pokey and unlike what I've gotten before. I already got my own hand poked badly and scratched enough to cut.

How can I still use this and my piggies stay safe? I spend forever trying to get the sharp sticks out and still feel like it could be harmful. I hate wasting the $50. They wont play around the hay or go in the kitchen as much. I'm worried about eye pokes I see pics of.

The 3rd cut isn't available yet.

Is it possible to contact the supplier and ask for a replacement/refund?
To be honest, as much as I hate the waste, I have been known to throw away a bale of hay before when it was not suitable.
I know wasting 50 dollars is bad, but a hay poke will end up costing almost as much as that so it may not be worth the risk.

You can save the hay, and use is for wild birds that will take It for nesting, or go and find a place where loads of wild rabbits hang out, and give them some good old fiber

If you can put it in a hayrack to minimise the risk of poking their eyes, but to be honest i wouldn’t risk it if you cant give it to them safely. Both of my two have had hay poke to the eyes (and the hay wasn’t even sharp) and it wasn’t a pleasant experience for them or me.

I looked up KMS policy, but it has to be unused. I went ahead and ordered a 3rd cut from another retailer. You're right about the risk.

I am going to see if this rescue nearby could use it. I have seen deer here, but not the rabbits

Mine refuse hay racks, will like jump in them or knock down. Oh no. How did the hay poke happen exactly?

I assume it was just while they were running through their bedding. I just noticed that he had a cloudy, sore watery eye. I knew instantly what had happened and fortunately with a week’s worth of eye drops both of them were fine.

I don’t tend to find Timothy hay is good for bedding. I use meadow hay for bedding and then feed a handful of Timothy hay as a supplemental feed. Mine love it - I put it in a bowl for them as a treat. However if yours is just too stalky like straw and I was bothered about it I’d be tempted to bin it, too.
