Just had another feed... Thanks for the banana tip, Toffeewoffee! I've mixed about 2 parts banana and 1 part already-mixed Recovery and 1 part additional water (being at work I was restricted to hand-mashing the banana, but will run the mix through the blender when I get home and then maybe get a little more Recovery into it for fibre). He's definitely responding to the banana mush MUCH better than straight Recovery diet, chewing pretty willingly and not fighting so much. It wasn't as enthusiastic as last night's feeds but the best I've seen him today. Water he isn't showing a huge amount of enthusiasm anymore (but as he was quite dehydrated before I could take this as a good thing?) but he lets it run down his throat when I hold him upright and it rinses the last of any mush he's holding in.
I got 3ml banana-Recovery down him in about 10-15 minutes, followed by 2ml plain water. (Just FYI, am using a 3ml syringe, which is what the ER vet gave me for the Recovery. It's well-labelled down to .1 though and he's taking probably about .2 of this new mush per bite. I have a 1ml syringe too but am reserving that exclusively for his Baytril.)
I'm going to go get some probiotic in the morning if we're still holding on, as I want to try and head off any digestion problems. Still concerned that I've seen no output from Picchu in several hours, but in fairness only 2ml of what he's had prior to this mush has been Recovery, which is obviously his source of fibre. Hoping the banana addition gets more fibre into him quickly and we'll keep his systems moving.
His breathing is still very distressed and he's very weak again, and won't really try to hold himself up anymore. With any luck he'll perk up again in the evening like he has the last two days, but I'm starting to lose hope today.
