Sorry there has been no update today, but have spent most of the day back and forth to the vets. Wiebke's piggy, Ceri, who is boarding with me saw Simon today as she had been losing a lot of weight recently. She had the most HUGE bladder stone which has been removed and I am now on nursing duty for Ceri as well as Toby Both are doing really well so far! This is all in addition to looking after my grandson too! Feeling rather knackered!

I saw that on Facebook - loads of vibes being sent to Ceri x

Toby continues to go from strength to strength. He saw Simon on Wednesday, and although he needed some filing of his teeth they really weren't anything like as bad as they had been just six days before. He can now eat leafy veggies without needing them to be chopped small and is managing to eat a little hay. He can polish off grass really quickly too.

Ceri went home to Wiebke on Wednesday and I believe she is continuing to do very, very well! All in all it's been a very good week!

And I can add to Debbie's reply, as I spent a lovely day today with Wiebke celebrating her birthday, and saw the gorgeous Ceri looking and behaving simply wonderfully. Eating well, and hard to believe she'd been so unwell and gone through an operation so very recently.

That's brilliant news Debbie!

How much is Toby weighing in at now? I bet he's putting weight on really quickly now!

Would you give him a cuddle from his other mummy!

Tracey x

Toby weighs around 650g now. I have stopped syringe feeding him completely, which has slowed the weight gain down a little, but we need to get him using his teeth more and more. It's always tempting to carry on syringe feeding long after they don't need it any more, but this results in them eating less abrasive foods that are going to wear the teeth. Although he can eat leafy veg really well, he is still reluctant to eat nuggets. I have been giving him some softened ones. Early days, but so far so good. In fact better than we could ever have hoped for! xx

So glad he's doing so well. I look forward to seeing him again as the big chunky, friendly boy I have met before. Looks like that shouldn't be too far away!

Well done Debbie and Simon, you really are the dream team for poorly piggies especially ones with dodgy teeth :)

Well what can I say about this little guy! The progress he has made has just blown me away! It is hard to believe he was so poorly and unable to eat anything less than two weeks ago. The only problem I am having now is keeping up with his constant demands for food. He weighed in this morning at just under 700g. We see Simon again today and I am so looking forward to seeing what he has to say about this amazing little man! x

Can I just add that we met Toby when taking Biscuit and Titch over to Debbies. I think my mum wanted to take him away with her...he is utterly adorable, such a lovely personality too and very beautiful.

Where would all these piggies be without you Debbie!? Truly inspiring xx

Ceri is doing really well; she has reached 700g yesterday (pre-dinner weight). That is 160g up from her operating weight and not bad for just over one week post op, considering her age and the size of her stone! She is definitely out of the danger zone and her small operation scar is healing well. Not sure how quickly and how much she will put on of the remaining weight loss, but I am more than pleased!

Without Debbie and Simon, I am sure she wouldn't have survived, her weight was going down so quickly with her seemingly still eating well and no other symptoms; when Simon operated, it was really borderline! Standing on the side of an Amsterdam canal discussing with Simon the risks etc. of an op or not, was one of my more surreal experiences - and it was a very anxious day!

Cariad and Ceri have started to spend part of the day with their friends again, but I'm still separating for tidbits/night/breakfast to make sure that they get that bit more food and have the leisure to eat it.

Well.....he very well may be available for rehoming when he's fit and well again. We really can't keep him long term, and his owner doesn't want to ship him to Dubai to join her (I really wouldn't want that for him anyway....he'll need constant monitoring, i can't imagine there are many cavy-savvy vets in Dubai...and, not to put too fine a point on it......it was his owner who let him get into that shocking state in the first place :( If it was a choice between him going to Dubai and staying with me, then he'd stay with me, no doubt about it) Watch this space.....I know I'd be able to find a first class home for him in a heartbeat, he's just so adorable!

Oh well you have done so well, you want to find a secure home for him now! I would be so worried sending a piggy over seas! I know that it can be done though. I am sure he will be a popular piggy and easy to rehome. Will he need ongoing dental work then? Perhaps TEAS know someone experienced with dental piggies who could rehome him? x

Toby saw Simon on Wednesday, and Simon was over the moon with his progress. His teeth needed a bit of a tidy up but nothing too major. He wants to see him again a week on Monday. Although many dental piggies need ongoing treatment, Simon is starting to think there is the possibility of a complete cure here, but he is always going to need very careful monitoring, even if he isn't going to need regular dental work. It's amazing to see the difference in him. He is bright, cheeky, constantly hungry looking for more and more food, and a complete delight to have around.

Stick a Christmas bow on him and give him to me when I pick up the boys after Christmas... If he's a present then Gill will have to let me keep him ;)

Awwww we need to find him a fab home! Sadly my boy Sebastian would not deal with another boy otherwise I would take him like a shot. However I do know the perfect person. Lets see how things go and if he does need rehoming I will mention it. I think she is full currently but she may fall for his charms!

Great news on Toby, it goes to show the amazing work both Debbie and Simon perform at TEAS. Really pleased for this little guy

That would be an amazing outcome for little Tobes! But that deepens the mystery of how his teeth got so bad in the first place......Toby has stayed with us several times in the past, mostly long-ish term stays (2 - 3 months-ish) and he's never had any problems with his teeth before. I last saw him about 18 months ago, when his owner moved down to Cambridge, so what happened between the last time I saw him and when he came to me recently....goodness only knows!

That's a cunning plan....and that way, I'd get to see him when the boys (all five of them!) come to stay.

Sounds intriguing! He is a poppet, always has been, and such a handsome boy too! x

What is the latest news on Toby, how is this little guy doing?

Toby is doing fantastically well and has gained over 300g since being here. He will however need ongoing dental work as he is only going about a fortnight between dentals. As long as he has regular tidying up of his teeth he eats like any other guinea pig, but his teeth are somewhat misplaced and start to grow into his cheek if left too long. Toby has now become a permanent Sanctuary resident, and even more exciting is that he now has friends for the first time in his life. Not just any friends though! He has very extra special friends. Two gorgeous little lethal boars, Stanley and Albert! He loves his new friends and the three boys get on so well together. A truly happy ending!

I'm very glad that his owner made the right choice to sign him over to you Debbie. Toby will have a wonderful life with you and I'm glad that he has some friends - I've seen the photos on your Facebook page and they're all gorgeous! <3

That is good news all round then for Toby, new teeth and new friends, what more could a little guy want for Christmas other than some nice veggies as a Christmas dinner and friends to share them with.
If you get chance it would be nice to see a piccie of them all together.
Merry Christmas to you and to Simon, another job well done.
