This morning i woke up and my piggie (Mr Frodo) was howling his head off. It actually sounded like a dog. When i went over he was weezing and seemed to be choking. I had a look in his mouth and couldnt see anything. I gave him some water which he took. He seemed to settle a bit after that. So i went out (i have a vets 10 min up the road) to see if they would see him. They pretty much told me to get lost. I rang the pdsa they also told me to go away because my membership with them ran out a month ago. Ive been ringing vets al day and no one will see him. What can i do? when i got back he seemed to have improved lots. Now he has a slight wheeze but hes also sort of twitching and keeps opening his mouth. Hes still eating but seems to be struggleing a bit. Hes just now had some dry food out of my hand and hes eating hay. Hes 9 years old btw:(:(:(

HI love i would keep him snuggled up with you in your lap and keep an eye on him, offer him food and water........then get to your vets in the morning.
Welcome to the forum i'm so sorry about your gorgeous piggie, 9 is an amazing age x) Mr. Frodo sounds a very loved and cared for boy x)x)
Wishing you all the best

Glynis, Velvet and Onyx x

is there a vets near you that does emergency appointments? that's worrying that they just turned you away :{
at a guess i would say that it sounds like a stroke, but please don't take my word on it. people here can only judge on words, not from seeing the pig, and i can only go on that and my own (limited) experiences.
i hope you can get him to the vets soon, and i hope you find out what's wrong with him. good luck!

Just had another thought, we have up the top in our health section vets that have been recommended.........is there one close to you?
You could also say where you are and maybe somebody might know of another good piggie savvy vet to help you :)

I hope I am wrong but the facts you have given could indicate heart failure, rather than a stroke.

Welcome to the forum, I'm sorry Mr Frodo is not well. I have to agree with AP, the twitching and gasping sounds more like heart to me too. Nine is a wonderful age.

hi all sorry for the laaaaaaaate reply. i did manage to get him to a vets but he had a fit an died on my knee. vet said it was heart failure. i miss him dearly. i buried I'm in the park with the others. rip my little man.

omg nine is amazing, sorry you lost your piggy, but so happy he lived to be nine, rip piggy, hope you are whizzing round rainbow bridge in your wheelchair x

So sorry for your loss. If it was heart failure unfortunatly there wouldnt have been much you could have done at that stage. Not that its helps, sorry.
RIP little piggie, you will be sadly missed.

xx.

hehe hes gone to the giant cucumber in the sky. trying to post pics of him cant work it out though.oh and the vets that refused to see him have since been taken over.

Sorry to hear about Mr Frodo, 9 is an amazing age! Hope you can get them pics up!

i cant work it out?

he was a funny little thing. i called him my "free range piggie"! basically he was free to roam around my living room. he had a little storage box to poop/sleep in. he mostly slept in my curtains tho lol. i do miss him waiting for "nom noms" at the kitchen door.

oh bless him I'm sorry you lost him he sounds like a very special little piggie, RIP Mr Frodo x

Oh my, I'm so very dearly sorry for your loss he must have been a big part of your life sine you had him for nine long and happy years. Neverforget all the good memories you had with him and just think what a fabulous life he had with you. Look out for him popcorning along the bridge for heaven. So sorry babe xxxxxxxxxx
